opinions plz- CJ2A restomod driveline

Maybe the driveline from a datsun pick up truck? I believe it was a Nissan Z24 engine. My buddy bought an old ragged out one carbed and stick shift with a divorced transfer case. Might be 30 years old now and still runs up into 3,000+ rpm and will move the truck around. Pretty small and flat engine if I remember correctly.

What's the weight on that?

I vote Subaru boxer (non-turbo) if we're going modern. It will get rid of those hood clearance problems.

Lighter than a 225 Buick, but I can't tell you exactly. Not too modern if you stay mechanical.
