Opinions Wanted...oh and Jeeps ONLY!

I second the J10 drivetrain swap. Go for a Honcho with the wide track axles and an old skool AMC 401....
I've got the wide track just not the 401.

I'm semi-nostalgic over this project. I kind of dig the old stuff it had.

:nopics:

Lets see the truck!

Best I've got right now. It's from when I went and picked it up. It looks OK here but she's rough once you get close to it.

Set the body down on a J truck or Wagoneer frame. Keep current drive train. Use the full size axles.
Keep the OEM stuff, in case you wanted to put it back original. Then you'd have one tough old truck even for mild wheeling.

Possibly but will it fit? I think I heard somewhere that you can set them down on an old blazer frame and it's almost an exact fit. I've got two J-truck frames and axles I could use.

Let me toss this out there. I don't have this but what about a small diesel?

I have seen FSJ stuff used and also Chevy frames too. A simple stretch of the tape will tell ya, center fender well, to center fender well
You will have to build new body mounts, but not that difficult, draw it out, and have someone cut it out on a plasma table. Will be clean, and work well. When getting them cut, you can also incorporate some lift, so you could run like 35's. Be one tough looking rig when finished!

I just read where one guy used a J20 frame but had to shorten it 25 inches. Another person used a Wagoneer frame. I've got the truck frame but still I was thinking of trying to stay light by sticking with the original. I know there may not be much difference in weight but I'm still going around in circles about this build.

I'm moving this to the build thread I started and I've decided that I want to put the original motor back in it and give it a mild lift to clear some larger tires. I have another one that I can get creative on.
