Are the FJ80 axles not a lot wider than the regular mini-truck axles found in the pre IFS pickups and runners?

What makes these so difficult to work with?

As said, they are 63.5" front, and the knuckles are vastly different from a minitruck knuckle, making high steer very difficult. Drive slugs stock, which is good or bad, but solid-axle lockout hubs bolt right on.

FJ80 rears are mostly full-float, and slightly offset to the right by a few inches. 8.875" ring gear in the back, 30 spline shafts.

um teh XJ coils gave a little over 2" in the rear, useda 1 3/4" spacer on each side up front to get about 2" lift up front, it cleared 31's fine for street use on that setup but when we lfexed it it rubbed hard up front so we trimmed some to clear the 31's... now we cna clear 35's but we dont have the gearing to handle em yet.

FJ80 axles sound like exaclty what i want width and strength wise... Rich can you advise me on a useful website to get pictures of the steering setup on them. I'm not sure i understand why it would be harder to set up a high steer system?

Because the knuckles are totally different. They steer from the bottom, and you cannot just bolt an arm to the top. There is ONE company offering high steer.. $750 + $250 machining, and it's OTT, which means good luck getting hold of them.
