No, not that package. Gate opener thread reminded me that I bought a gate opener like 6 years ago and its still sitting on a shelf in the garage. Hesitation has been how to deal with the almost daily visits from UPS/USPS/FEDEX. How do you gate people handle this?

Depends a lot on your individual UPS/FEDUP/USPS driver.

I know one driver that has a list of gate codes taped on the dash of his truck for various places on his route. He'll open a gate, go all the way to the house. Other drivers won't...they'll just leave it at the gate. UPS is more likely to do that than FEDEX, I have heard. USPS is SUPPOSED to go all the way to your house if gate is open, but I understand that is rare. As they aren't paid for that time/miles.

To clarify: Plan would be to generally keep the gate closed when we are home.

We have a gate. But we have multiple homes on the road. I have the door openers for the gate. UPS guy calls us and we open it. MIL is always home and the gate closes at 5pm. FIL has a business at home. So the gate needs to be open from 7 to 5. They have left the little stickies on the gate as if we weren't home.

Our regular UPS guy has our numbers so it works well. Fedex and USPS were never late in the evening so they could deliver as normal. There was a few times during Christmas UPS would come by as late as 9:00pm.

Very long winded reply that doesn't answer your question.

Our UPS/USPS guy told us to build a box outside the gate and leave an opened lock inside. They put the packages in and lock the box and go. You retrieve when you get home.

That's what i plan to do if i ever get around to it.

Works well for the first delivery that day, and not so great for the second.

Install and leave gate open. At least then the opener would not take up space in your garage shekves. o_O. Its progress man. Obviously nothing useful to add

X2. I would have to build a small shed for some of the boxes I get delivered though.

Or install a wifi/LTe camera and switch at the gate. You get an alert from the camera when someone drives down the road and you can open the gate for them from your phone. Install a laser trip sensor on the inside of the gate so that it opens automatically when someone goes to leave.
