Anybody got one? I'm about a week away from getting a baby miniature pot bellied pig. We've had chickens for years and now we will be adding a pig that we will let out and play with. We have two young kids and these pigs are apparently very loving and loyal. These pigs are supposed to only get to around 35#.

Anybody else have this kind of craziness already going on?

My clients got one that was only supposed to get to 35#.

He's kept it as an indoor pig that's now clocking in at over 100#. He loves it so much he went out and got another. So now he's got two indoor pigs and a schnauzer that pees on my office furniture.

If it all goes wrong they're delicious
Even little tenderloins are wonderful.

They have to be better than the miniature buck goats my sister had.
They were the nastiest two animals I have ever seen.

I have read that pigs are even more intelligent than dogs. Should be good pets.

From what I understand you have to moderate their diet or they will get bigger. It is supposed to be a mini pot bellied pig. Fortunately we have met the parents and they are between 30 and 40 pounds.

No pig is "living" in my house, I'm going to expand my fenced area for the chickens and let the pig live there. The pig, Loretta, should help protect the chickens from predators.

The smartest domesticated animal is a pig. Apparently they bond really well and consider themselves part of the family and seek affection and attention.

I have some distant cousins that have pot bellies they treat better than children. They have their own pet beds in the living room and they claim they even have their favorite TV shows they like to watch. They swear by them as smarter than humans. They said they were naturally house trained that they come and go as they please in and out the back storm door to go to the bathroom in the back yard. Said as long as they are kept cool and not outside all day in the heat that they have no desire to waller in mud.

This is Loretta.

Here is a question: are you still going to eat bacon now?? :)

I eat the shit out of bacon, bbq, ham, you name it swine is it!

That pic was taken when she was about a week old and it was at the house we are getting her from. I don't mind the occasional clean baby pig in the house, but I don't want that to be a normal thing. She is three weeks old now and although she is eating dry food, she is still nursing. We will bring her home when she is weened completely which should be another week or so. Since she is local to us, we will be bringing her home for visits after meals so its not total shock when moved. Until she gets a little bigger, she will live in our garage for a bit. Shit should be real interesting...

Since she will live with the chickens, I will have to let her out when I feed the birds food scaps. I have heard this will keep the pig's weight down and make them less aggressive toward people food. Apparently when grown they are to eat a 1/2 cup of food in am and a 1/2 cup in the evening.

I had a pet pig named Petunia for awhile, It used to really freak my wife out when I would feed her ham lol she loved it!! I fed her dog food regularly though but my moms wanted her so she moved off to VA and then my dad traded her for a saddle.

won't that create MAD pig disease or something?

That's funny, Petunia is the moms name.

We had a pet pig for a while named scribbles. When it got up to about 40lbs a bear decided it wanted some bbq one night and there went scribbs!!!

Dang thats rough!! Coyotes got to yipping and cutting up in the cutover behind the house one evening, I went down to check on petunia (she just kinda roamed wherever and got back into the fence when she wanted) and she was in the doghouse behind my boxer Tony. He was her protection I guess, wife did have a pic of her scratching his back with her snout, you scratch my back I keep you from becoming yote food!

Thinking about getting a couple once I get the rest of my fencing up. Probably not gonna be pets though ;)

Where can I acquire one of them there pet pigs???
My woman brings up wanting one every other day.
