The best donation you can give that will benefit Uwharrie directly is your time on volunteer days. With Tellico temporarily out of action, there is more RTP (Recreational Trails Program) money available for Uwharrie.

Problem is, they have to have matching funds for this government money. That's where we come in. Our volunteer time, as well as tools and equipment we use in trail maintenance can be used by the Forest Service as part of the required matching funds.

Another way to achieve the same end is to join a club that is an Apodt-A-Trail sponsor at Uwharrie. These clubs do off season maintenance on their adopted trails as well as doing in season maintenance. Carolina Trail Blazers (CTB) and Carolina Off Road Extremists (CORE) are a couple of clubs that I know have memberships available :)

Ok thanks. Thats what i figured. I have been planning on joining CTB but havent gotten around to it. Im moving it up on my long to-do list.

Again, we haven't lost anything yet, that's just how the FS would like us to percieve things though.

SFWDA and Rescue Tellico filed to sue the FS today, the fight is still going strong!

I would like to comment on the upcoming meetings to make plans for the forest system. My family and I use the forest at least 10 times a year for the OHV trails. We are part of a larger group of enthusiasts that take care of our sport and support it's growth. With the recent closing of Tellico there is very little chance for full size OHV's to ride. I know there are always bad apples, but concerned people at many locations including www.nc4x4.com are trying to make sure our voices are heard. By keeping the trails available and expanding, the local economy benefits and thelikelihood of illegal wheeling is lessened. The expansions bring more concerned citizens to the location and more volunteer help that financially makes sense.
