Alright so I am gonna start the update with a big sigh of relief and an explanation.I didn't realize that I had never said what happened until Ron pointed it out.We were all out in the backyard and the kids were riding their bikes in circles around the outside of the yard. There were leaves on the ground and my daughter fell, when I got to her,she wouldn't get up.I carried her into the house and laid her down on the couch. She had a large cut that went from her right side ribs down to her abdomen,It was mostly just superficial though,no part of it was deep or even bleeding all that much.It looked like when she fell her handle bars turned and the flat end was what had hit her ribs and stomach. She was whimpering but not really crying, she seemed a lot more scared than hurt.So I cleaned up the cut, dressed it with gauze and we laid on the couch for awhile.Shortly after my wife came home and while she was checking on Emily, she just inexplicably threw up.So my wife took her to the bathroom and I called a nurse from the kids doctors office. When she sat on the toilet she began passing blood,we rushed to the emergency room. That's pretty much it for the explanation, the next 12 hours were a whirlwind of tests and my little Baby being the toughest trooper on the face of the planet while they hooked multiple IV's,poked, prodded and ran her through machines taking pictures of her whole body. The urologist said he has maybe twice seen this much damage to someone's body from an accident that seemed so minor. It looks like her Ribs actually did their job and stopped most of the impact but then the handlebar slid down and went under them. The impact from it lacerated her Liver and fractured her kidney, causing her to bleed internally.I am playing the blame game pretty heavy about this being the one that was out there, plus I should've just taken her right away to the ER.It was just so crazy,I never would have thought,I mean we ride bikes with helmets and pads on the kids around here.We are really safe, plus they were riding in my back yard,on the grass. So that's what happened, just being a kid doing something kids do.
So now for the update. When I left the Hospital Tuesday Night, they had said she may come home soon depending on how Wednesday went.So I stayed up all night cleaning every nook and cranny of the house spotless, because it's important she doesn't catch any kind of infection right now.I also cleaned her room really well and bought her all new Tinkerbell bedding(Her Favorite) and a new Tinkerbell Quilt. When I went back to the hospital Wednesday morning she seemed in better spirits and the nurses said they wanted us to walk up and down the hall a little, around the children's ward. She has actually begun running periodic fevers and they think that could be due to being in a bed so long.So we walked her down the hall a little, which was another tear fest, listening to her whimper and cry while holding her hand as she edged a long. She is still in a lot of pain and the pain medicines work when she is holding still but moving around is really hard on her.We went back to her room and hung out awhile, until she said she was ready to have something to eat.The stuff they have been bringing to her room have been a total liquid diet and the doctors said she was ready to eat solid food.So we took her down to the cafeteria in a wheel chair and let her pick out what she wanted. We took her back to the room and she ate really well for the first time since Saturday.Although it was still probably 1/5 of what she would normally eat.We then had a meeting with the doctors who said they thought we could take her home for Thanksgiving. We are just 10 minutes from Duke and that played heavily into the decision. They gave a huge list of things we have to do,as well as a schedule for monitoring her Temperature, vitals and mood. She is also on strict strict bed rest al least until next Friday when we go back for more ultra sounds, although they encourage us to walk her around in the house every few hours to help with the fever, stiffness. It's perilous though, even a little bump to her side and we will be right back in the Children's intensive care unit. There are also still a lot of dangers for her, there is a chance the clots stopping the internal bleeding could dissolve or break up too quickly and the bleeding could start again. So I left the hospital and went to Party City,I think I bought them totally out of pink, yellow and purple balloons as well as "Welcome Home" banners and little curly things that hang from the ceiling. My sister met me at the house and we decorated it from one end to the other and I went back. When I got to the hospital Yesterday afternoon, they were releasing her and we gingerly brought her home.I brought her in,and it was a big time. She loved the decorations, family came by to see her home and I showed her the new Tinkerbell stuff.Everyone left,we fixed her up a spot on the couch in the living room so she could be with us and she asked me for her new Blanky.I covered her up and she immediately went to sleep for 3 hours.Talk about a little girl relieved to be home. She got up for a little while later last night, ate a decent dinner, went back to bed and slept the whole night through.I think for the first time since this weekend everyone got a good night's sleep last night. My wife slept on the other couch in the living room and although I got up often to check on them,I got a lot of sleep too. This morning she is in great Spirits,we are watching the Thanksgiving Parade and getting ready to have a quiet, just the 4 of us Thanksgiving here. She is getting around Ok although she is still in a great deal of pain and walks all hunched up.I am not pushing her to walk too much and I am sure it will get better everyday.I am always thankful on Thanksgiving for my blessings, but this year I feel so much more Thankful than ever before.Family is everything and it can be fleeting.I am also thankful to have a great group of guys out there worrying about my little girl,Happy Thanksgiving Guys.
