As a DD, how will you get it past emissions with the 5.3?

I only ask because I would love to do that swap to mine.

anything older than 10yrs dont have to have emissions

In our world, it's OBDII ('97) & newer get a plug-in & visual...
Correct, look under the dash and you will see the OBD plug. Better start working on the getting it titled as a CJ.

As long as the donor motor is out of the same year or newer, its a legal swap. I will pull the exact wording from dmv inspection info.....

Has to be the same model year or newer AND from the same manufacturer, ie. jeep/hemi, not jeep/GM.

Also, all the original emissions equipment from the donor motor must be in place.

With him keeping the jeep ecm it will read the correct vin so most inspecptors will not notice and not flag the dmv. Most read what's on the tag under the hood and never truely look at a motor....

correct, and it will have all emissions hooked up and working, along with the jeep ecm still connected for gauges, all the sending units from the jeep will be put in the chevy motor

Go with it.
Guff is BADASS.
Show em how it's done.

that'll be fun.

fwiw... from what I have heard, if its 97 or newer it has to be emissions tested, BUT it also depends on the county you live in. Vance doesnt but 10 miles down the road granville does :gay:

Emission testing is bascialy done internally on the vehicle now. The check eng light must light up then go out and the ecm has to pass all checks to pass. Emissions is visual inseption also. BTW the local Dmv guy says it's a legal swap.....

You could always get a po box in alleghany county and register it there. They have no emissions testing on anything.

I am not worried, this will be a legal swap, everything that needs to be in place will be, and it WILL pass inspection:driver:

as a TJ, not a CJ, just a joke

I would like to see this in writing somewhere...
According to the EPA it is OK to convert a different manufacturer's complete certified engine and emissions system from the same model year or newer donor vehicle. They say that this is difficult and costly to do, but it is OK as long as the rules are followed. Here is an exerpt from the US EPA "Engine Switching Fact Sheet":
"It should be noted that while EPA's policy allows engine switches as long as the resulting vehicle matches exactly to any certified configuration of the same or newer model year of the chassis, that there are some substantial practical limitations to performing such a replacement. Vehicle chassis and engine designs of one vehicle into a chassis of a different manufacturer and have it match up to a certified configuration. Therefore, practical considerations will generally limit engine switches to installation of another engine which was certified to be used in that same make and model (or a "twin" of that make and model, e.g., Pontiac Grand Am and Oldsmobile Calaise). In addition, converting a vehicle into a different certified configuration is likely to be very difficult, and the cost may be prohibitive"
All of this information is available on the EPA website.

I haven't seen it in writing, just been told that by a buddy that runs and inspection/mechanic shop.

For Gods sake GUFFY, don't do it!

You will get caught! You will be tried! After which you will be hanged! Even possibly publicly ridiculed!

You will accelerate Global warming!

Your emissions will cause a twenty-fold increase in the cases of brain cancer and premature balding!

IT WILL CAUSE A CATASTROPHE OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS!!

IT WILL CAUSE A RIP IN THE VERY FABRIC OF TIME AND SPACE ITSELF!!

WE'LL ALL DIE!!!

sheeesh!
