Am I better off finishing my Wrangler to where it's driving to sell it or just sell it as is? And how much is reasonable to expect each way?

Specs:
87 yj, hard top & full hard doors, nice seat covers, no back seat, clean title

Front parallel 4 link conversion (similar to xj front setup but with about 50% longer CAs)

Supposed to be good running 4.0
Or
4.0 block& head, 4.2 rods & crank, brackets, harness, newer gauges etc

Aw4, np231 (needs sye)
D35 with lunch box for rear

As it sits:

I have practically everything to finish it except maybe the driveshafts. I've got the stock shafts that came out. Thinking the yj tub & frame worth about $1500 and all the above parts worth about $800-$900. That sound about right?

Build thread 87 yj -> (x,z,y)j

Depends on your time/money/motivation situation. Generally, the whole is worth more than the sum of the parts, and a running motor is worth more than a "supposed to be good running" one.

You're going to get beat up on prices for something a buyer has to winch on to a trailer vs. driving home, but depending on how much more you have to put into it, may end up being a wash.

For me personally I would want it just like it is,just add a rear axle to get it on the trailer.cause I'm gonna undo everything that's been done. It all comes down to how much.

I think you should be happy to get 2k for everything as it sits. More realistically, $1500. I wouldn't spend the time putting it together to try and get more, unless your time is no big deal.

x2. I dont think you are going to get 1500 out of the body and frame unless you strip and sell each little part seperately.

I think you could get 4-5k if it was running and driving and cleaned up.

I occasionally find myself in the same boat as you. I've thought about selling my junk and starting over, or waiting until "that time comes" (in quotes, only because I hope that it does...I never really know anymore) that I will be able to go enjoy my Jeep again. Mine is in even a greater state of disrepair than your is at the moment, but I keep plugging along with what little time I've got. Although it is forever occupying our garage and my wife doesn't always care for that fact, we do discuss it on occasion and she is the one that keeps pushing me NOT to sell it. Plus, I keep getting on here and looking at progress that everyone here makes, as well as the awesome (with my emphasis on the awe - seriously) work that some of these folks do. That motivates me to keep my pile, especially with knowing that sometime in the near future I "should" be finding myself with a little more time on my hands available.

I did vote, but I'm with what @XJsavage said - finish it and wheel.

Not with folks like bigwoody selling YJs on 42's and tons for $3500

The market is piss poor right now for it either way. Be prepared to damn near pay someone to get it in its current condition, and $2k at BEST for running

I'll be the first to say you STARTED something cool but it's now how you start, it's how you finish

I suppose that if if it's worth so little, it's worth finishing and keeping. There were other factors playing to wanting to sell it but that changed as well.. the observant people will be able to figure out what one of the factors was/would be.

I would agree the market isnt great, and built rigs can be had for good prices. But if you can find a clean, stockish running and driving wrangler in the $2k range send them in my direction because they are not that cheap around here.

You can't find THOSE, because they're over in the classified section and FB groups asking $10k for them, then bitching why no one is biting on such a stupid number

Yeah. I guess that was my assumption, was him finishing it was getting it back driving and clean it up, as mostly stock/slightly modified. Thats where the money can be made and crowd is largest. The offroad crowd is cheap typically, and therefore the more built projects sell when cheap.
