Proper battery size for 1st gen Dodge D350 cummins

Just bought an 89 D350 and the seller had a tiny 600ish cca battery in it out of his boat. It won't hold a charge and even when charged up, it will barely turn the motor over. What size battery should I be looking for?

IIRC the FSM calls for a #26 but they changed requirements to a Group 31. In late ‘90 or ‘91. My 1st and 2nd gen both had 31’s in them with no issues.

I'd put a 4D if you could fit it....but otherwise yeah go with a 31.

Every diesel pick up I ever saw, had dual batteries, & each being 900 - 1000 CCA.

No first generation Ram came with dual batteries, but you can put two of them in the battery tray sideways. I have two group 31s in mine.
