I thought I had a thread here for surveillance cameras but I guess not. I did have one for Ring door bells so maybe that's what I was thinking. Anyway I'm gonna put up a camera or two and want to be able to record the history on it. So have looked at Blink because one of my customers has them.
What do y'all use?

I have blink cameras how far away do you want the camera from the house. Blink works over Wi-Fi so no Wi-Fi no videos

I’ve got cell cameras as well that take videos and store them on my app. If it’s far away from the house

I have weak wifi at the shop so Blink may have an issue there

I've got a Lorex package I got at Costco. Been pretty happy with it... picture is prett good, even at night with no light. The advice I got when looking was go with wired & cat6 cable.

You got one pointed at Karen's house?

Well SH!T I just received my ReoLink system RLK8-410B4-5MP and it's a hard wired system that I thought was a stand alone system. But as soon as I open the quick start guide it says to connect it to your router! It's going in my shop where there's no wifi or connectivity. ReoLink support so far is not too hot. It's only a Bot in support that sends you meaningless articles that are no help. No real time support. This is going back in the box for now until I can figure out if it's usable or not. If I only had to buy a monitor, I wouldn't mind but I can't get any answers so far. I guess I need a 12 year old kid around to figure this out for me! LOL

I've got a 16 channel DVR with 7 coax cameras right now. They are all HD. All of my cameras are hardwired back to the DVR. DVR is at my house, no cloud based recording. I do have remote access through an app and through the desktop app. My internet was not good at the time of install and I was somewhat familiar with this type of system so that what I ended up with.

Looking back I would have gone with an NVR and IP cameras(just use cat6 vs coax) and gone with a smarter NVR that does people recognition and does smart zone movement alerts.

I spent some pretty good money on it but it did come with free tech support which has been nice to be able to call someone and get answers.

I have a Reo link system in my shop. I use it as a stand-alone system. I bought an inexpensive monitor off of E-bay. It has the option to connect it to the net, but I don't have service at my shop either. No issues so far.
I'm hoping that's what I can do with this one, it just didn't have enough info with it for me to feel comfortable unwrapping and installing it not knowing if it will work like that.

My house got egged Sunday night / Monday morning about 1:45am. Also tried to break in my Honda and looks like they tried to set it on fire (watch for the spark after my cat hauls ass from underneath).

Cameras picked this up

Video of the guy that stole my boots. cops caught him within an hour and my boots were returned. after this we increased the time they film every time they come on.

I Have run blink for two years. I have an issue right now but won't know what it is till I get home. I think the wife can't relink them because they where originally set up on my phone.

How old are your kids? If they are younger than high school age, I'd be talking to my neighbors if I were you.

Back when I was in about 3rd-4th grade, my parents got awakened by a loud bang, which was a melon busting on their bedroom window. They went out to find a few more busted on the porch, and 2 sliced sidewalls on my dad's work van. After some what the hell'ing and looking and asking around the next day, they found out that a couple dumbass high-school boys were mad at our neighbors daughter, and hit the wrong house. Of course this was found our because they were bragging about it in some way. Needless to say, when this was all sorted out, their dad's drug their asses over and made them apologize and clean up and pay for everything.

I've shared w/ a few select neighbors and had the Sherriff out simply to file a report so it's on record. I've also let some of the older kids around here know so they can keep their ears to the ground for exact what you speak of (dumbasses posting to Snapchat or other socials and bragging). Will prob post up on the neighborhood FB group in a few days to let others know. I have no doubt it's some punk ass rich kids around here w/ their daisy duke shorts and loafers.

I have a mix of blink/simplisafe/samsung/night owl

Some do different things better than others.

The simplisafe is doorbell and back porch.

Blink is front and side porch.

Samsung and night owl are on the corners at the soffit of two buildings wired to dvr.

I haven’t found wired dvr style cameras that do as good of a job with motion and alerts as the blink/simplisafe.

But these are way clearer at distance.

The WiFi ones are good at short range.

Typically I get a notification thru blink/simplisafe and that gives me a time stamp to look back at in the dvr.

Wayyy higher options that what I have and use but I didn’t need. Mine use 12v and vga style coax while the newest latest and greatest are cat5/POE and are clearer, some ptz, and overall better but at a higher cost

Wifi and cellular cameras are fine for general deterrence or recording hooliganism, but useless against a proper thief.
