Have any of y’all ever actually purged your shop, garage, whatever?

I’m pretty over all the junk I’ve accumulated. I listed some stuff on Craigslist but 90% of it didn’t move or by the time you do a bunch of back and forth it’s not even worth the $20 I listed the thing for.
Do you just take it to a pawn shop, or does it really just go in the trash?

I parked a 10 yard dumpster at my front door and filled it twice when we moved. Straight to the landfill.

I have a dumptruck 🤷🏿‍♂️

I make a trip every few months. I'm in no way a packrack and will chuck something if I haven't touched it in a few months if I don't give it away

If you are looking for a bit of cash, post several items together that are similar and sell for $20 or more for the lot of items.

Dump trailer lyf…just did 6 trips to the dump. Haven’t done one in 3-4yrs. Probably have another 3-4 loads to go. Anything from appliances, to parts for vehicles I don’t own anymore, to equipment for the wife’s business ventures, to old home decor themes, etc etc. If there is someone specifically that I think could legitimately use something, I’ll give it to them.

Edit…even gave up the junk drawer tools and box(es) of old electronics/chords.

My parents lived in same house for 52 years, 2stall 24x24 garage, full basement 950sqft house, 3 kids in that time, 4 10yd dumpsters after 2 yard/garage sales.
im sad I wasn’t able to be there when it all happened (during Covid), but I’m also glad I wasn’t there… I’d have hauled too much back home….

currently I need to do the dumpster deal myself, just haven’t been able to make the call…. I’ve lived in same house for 23 years….. and have too much crap for vehicles I no longer own.

‘84 Toyota front axle got anything more than scrap value now ?

Hey I know a guy who can hook you up!

Seriously, call me if you need one.

Duane
I think I just got called out…..

Man, I need a dumpster……

I like a really good purge occasionally.
Where I get hung up isn't wanting to get $$ back out of stuff - its that it bothers me for things to just be buried in the ground/become nothing more than environmental waste instead of being used by somebody. Most of the time I find myself thinking "I'm sure somebody could use this, just need to find a way to find that new home." which of course becomes too much work and it never happens.

Maybe I need to try LetGo?

Pretty sure you can stock a plumbing and electrical store from my dad’s garage and truck toolboxes. He doesn’t throw anything away. I always check with him before I buy anything. I wired a small storage building with stuff from his basement. Plumbed condensation lines from the air handler a while back without a store trip.

I feel guilty when tossing some of the stuff. Like I know it’s good. And worth at least a dollar. And I don’t want it to go to the dumpster. But that one guy in Wyoming that needs it will never see my post.
But what if he does?!?!?! Hold out hope brother!

Are we long lost brothers? My dad has 2 of everything, but its gonna be the janky version from 1992, and you know you've seen it somewhere but just can't find it when you need it.

And that’s my problem. Have it. Can’t find it. Need it. Go buy it. Use it. Find the original. Rinse and repeat.

Dad has one toolbox that is exactly that. Stuffed with random junk that you would only use if the planets and stars were aligned. Like some random ass fitting that fits one thing in the world that he doesn’t own or will never work on.

But you can't get rid of it because it will be impossible to find elsewhere if you need it!

I have all of you all beat have been on this property for 23 years now. I have about 6 semi trailers full and around 12 ambulances full and several building and sheds full and over 400 autos. I will pile up things for years and one day i finally get enough junk together and then i put it all together and make something on the cheap. I piled up stuff for about 5 years and built a shed 35x100 for less than 5000.00 dollars and that was mostly paid labor to build it for me. I have enough 12-3 rubber wire to make a extension cord for over a mile not counting all the differnt size copper wire i have stashed around. I buy it real cheap or get it even free i have projects im my head i want to do so i look for the materials to build them and start stock piling it somewhere on my property till i get enough to put it together. I am usually less then 20% of what it cost to build or buy it. That is how i got what i have now My papaw who raised me taught me how to do that. The biggest thing is patients if you want to save money or make money on things..
