What would it take for you to give up on Jeep? Or if you're not a loyal Jeep lover, what would it take for you to come to the dark side?
Let's say GM bought Jeep and started putting the 5.7 V8 in there.
What if Toyota bought Jeep, would you Yota owners think about buying a Jeep then?
This crossed my mind today and thought it may be a good topic.

Since Jeep has been owned buy so many different companies (Willys overland,Kaiser, AMC, Chyrsler I may have missed one.)
It really does not matter who owns the as long as it is a US manufacture.

GM would be a perfect Idea since there are all ready alot GM motors installed in Jeeps

I think I speak for the majority jeep owners.....

A 4WD convertible, removable door vehicle that looks cool and has a ton of aftermarket goodies. Something to do some easy trailriding in.

Hum I have 2 jeeps and they do not fit any of those conditions
Not covertable
not removble doors
looks cool but that is because it is
almost no aftermarket parts
and power by MOPAR and GM

I don't know how anyone with a 30" or more inseam can even drive a CJ or TJ.. They're cramped as hell..

Anyway, what does it matter.. by the time you're done, it's got a non stock engine, trans, t-case, 1-tons from one of the big 3, and typically retains little else OEM.

6'2 1/2" and 32 inseam here Richy and have no issues whatsoever with room in mine. A CJ-5, I agree, it's very cramped and you had best be comfortable with a steering wheel in your gut.

My Jeep is a AMC 360, never came in my CJ but, it did come from a Jeep. A T-176 tranny, one of the few original parts of my Jeep. A 231 crawl box, out of a newer(to me) Jeep, a Dana 300 Original to a CJ, but do have after market 4:1 gears in it. The Non Jeep parts start basically at the Axles.
The engine is stock with the only upgrade of Propane for aspiration.
Would I give up on Jeep. Probably not, but I can say many good things about the Toyota Mini Trucks. Great after market support and they do very well on the trails.
I have owned more Jeeps than I care to remember. OK, at my age remembering them all is difficult! LOL IMO some of the worst designs over the years. If you have owned many of them, you know what I mean. But there is a draw to them.
Over the years I have pulled more Toyota's, Chevys, and others out of the woods and with the exception of my last ride, had never been pulled back myself. I have repaired, helped repair, welded and engineered more "other" brands than I have mine, out on the trails.

If I were driving anything other than a Jeep on the trail, people would wonder who I was! LOL

I just sold both of my jeeps for a total of 7300 bones! The one 78 cj7 for 6100 I had for about 9 years! The other for 1200.
I now I drive a chevy k5 with a v8. And for some reason I still keep collecting / buying jeep parts!!
LOL:confused: :D
:confused:Who would buy that crap?

LOL...you would! :D You crazy fawker!

You've got to be kidding me. Unless you drive a Willy's, that doesn't hold an ounce of water.

That's like saying I drive (what's left of a) Land Cruiser because the guy in Africa who discovered the cure for (insert epidemic disease name here) was driving a FJ40 when he found it.

My Toyota has more American parts than any new Jeep on the showroom floor..

Sorry brother but the Marine Corps used CJ3's in different varietyies and the Airforce as well up until the early 90's and as a matter of fact when i checked in to New River Air Station in 98 Camp Johnson still had 3 of them running around. i agree with most of you guys about the platic and other crap but at least some of it is still metal haha

real jeeps have round headlights haha

That may be true, but it's completely irrelevant - it's not like you or I could just go out and buy one and drive it around as a DD.

Thats why I like my full size. Big motor, strong tranny and tcase, and tons are bolt it if you keep leaf springs. Sure, the body takes a hell of a beating, but its a trail rig, not a show queen.

x2 Plus it's nice having room to carry my family and stuff.
I wouldn't own a Heep!

All things considered...if you do all the up grades, lockers, lift, ect... most any vehicle could become very trail worthy, but to a lot of folks, the name ''JEEP'' is kinda like ''HARLEY''. Old or new, there is a lot riding on the name.
But back to the question....If the right money talks, the jeep walks, but I would probably just buy another jeep.

Well ive taken out most of the seats to have room for all the junk I carry "just in case." :flipoff2:

It'd take a helluva lot for me to buy one after wheeling one. Never felt so unsafe wheeling the rockies than in a Jeep, and I've been wheeling the rockies for 15 years in Toyota's. It dragged (drug?) the skid plate on the transfer case and gas tank on the smallest thing that I wouldn't think twice about in any of my stock Toyotas, including a '91 Hilux and '98 Taco. Not that dragging bothers me a WHOLE lot, (especially since it was a rental,) but it felt like it was going to tip over driving over the smallest rocks.

I built my M38 from nothing so it would take a chunk of cash to get it and then a chunk to build another one exactly like Nellie.Unless there is a life changing problem that would force a selling,I couldn't forsee it happening.

no complaints here. I'll bet it's the only 15 year old vehicle around that can have dents, mud, scratches, 160k miles and no carpet and still pull $6000! can you get that kind of resale from any other vehicle in this condition?
