Bout to fire the Z71 Jeep up with the new engine setup (13:1 compression) need me some high octane gas 110 or so. Was gonna run Nav Gas by suggestion of Chad and Kevin but the closest airport I found was in Fuquay I called he wouldn't tell me squat about the gas they sell, impression I got was they didn't want nonairplanes running there gas, lol.

Anyway, anybody know where I can get race gas? I'd prefer to not have to buy a huge 50 gallon drum at a time if I can help it.

Thanks

There is/was a station in Cary, of all places, don't know if they still have it or not. The name and # are in my stuff at work. I was getting gas there one day, looked over and saw the "104" on another pump. :) Guy is/was a racer, IIRC.

Yea a friend told me bout that place but also said he thought you had to buy it in the 50 gallon drums? Might have to swing by there to check.

Check with Wake County speedway, they may have it, or tell you where to get it.

it ain't cheap !

^^ Yup, go down 70 toward clayton, take the highway 50 exit toward benson, BP at the top of the ramp

The BP on the corner of Maynard and Kildiare Farm carried it about 10 years ago. I don't know if they still have it.

the bp on kildare/maynard still has 100 from the pump. that's where i usually get mine. you can also get c16 from mayhem motorsports on germantown rd.

as has been mentioned, since you're going to have to run this stuff all the time now you'd be better off buying a whole drum.

is this your dd???

Naa, dont confuse the z-71 jeep, with the ballzout, badarse z-71 Truck!

He just needs dem octanes fo dat compression, so he dont pop out!
(lame attempt at Ricky talk)

Thank you, the Z71 Jeep and the Z71 truck both are awsome in their own right but are not one in the Same . . .

Found out today that Johnson county airport will sell me there Nav Gas, its allot cheaper than the $6 a gallon race gas and is 113 octane If I remember right.

Preciate all the referrals guys :driver:

it's av, not nav. as in aviation.

also, you might consider setting it up to run on e85 as a much cheaper alternative. there's a station in durham. make sure you read up on the changes you might need to make to your fuel system though.

edit: just checked, it's selling for $2.85 a gallon. cruizers 20 in durham.

Are there legal issues w/ using "AV" gas in an on-road vehicle? E.g. I doubt highway use tax is included in teh price, hence cheaper, but not legal?
Similar to using "HOV" deseil in your on-road truck.

Isn't that ethanol? For that price that would def be sweet, doesn't alcohol burn allot cooler too? I wonder what I'd have to do to run it.

Although I was told av gas was like $3.80ish a gallon which also isn't too bad.

I know with Av gas you have to add a little marvel mystery oil to each tank because its missing something normal gas has that lubricates and I can't remember what it is right now.

yeah, Highway Use Tax

I think we are talking about 2 different things.
You are saying there's an additive you may need to make it good for your vehicle. That may be so.
I am saying that you will probably be breaking the law b/c you will not be paying the appriate tax on your fuel. At the same time, you may be paying a tax to instead to the FAA, which is silly because even though the truck may be bad-ass lightening fast and jet-like, it still is not not airplane. Better check up on that.

oh i got ya, well I mean, the jeeps not goin on the road, nor is it tagged, so that shouldn't be an issue since I'm not using the Highway and it's a "highway use tax" ;)

yeah, as long as you're not on the road no need to pay highway use. there is a form you can submit if you need to though. commonly used by people running grease and other homemade bio fuels. HOWEVER, keep in mind that places like uwharrie pretty much require you to drive on the public roads at times unless you're careful to stick to the trails only. i don't see them dipping tanks anytime soon, especially on a gas vehicle, but they do stop people to check for other things. most avgas is dyed also like farm grade diesel is. just a note.

as for an additive, i'm not an expert but i think you might be thinking of jet fuel. it can be run in diesels, but needs something added to increase lubricity. as far as i know, avgas is fine as it is assuming you've got the motor for it.

yes, e85 is just what the name says. 85% ethanol. it gives you about a 103-105 octane rating i believe. it is very hard on rubber parts and some metals though, so read up on it to see what you might would need to replace. for something that sees very limited use, it might not be as big of a concern.

AV Gas contains LEAD, Tetra Ethyl LEAD, and WILL KILL any catalytic converter equiped vehicle ( kill the converter and O2 sensor anyway )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avgas ( about the fuel )

I know this particular vehicle probably doesn't have converters, tossed that out as info should someone get a bright idea......

As for E85, yes, it is 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline. Be aware that yes, it has A higher Octaine rating, it burns a bit cooler AND it requires about 45% more fuel to mintain the same power levels as straight gasoline.

They tout E85 as the fuel of the future, but I see nobody explaining that mileage and power are greatly reduced as a result. IT IS explained in the OEM Owners manuals of Flex Fuel vehicles, but it's never mentioned in the ad's.
