Raising Chickens

Got more of the run covered and made it so you can open the chicken door from outside the run.

I've got one bird doesn't want to roost in the coop and is always trying to get out. Anything I can do?

I think if you keep closing the door at night, they will all get used to having to go in. If you have any signs of predator pressure, you will want to keep that door closed at night. Keeping the grass mowed around the coop and fence can help against some predators.

We have a lot of yotes around the house. The coop itself is rock solid. Still finishing out the run. Gonna lay out the 2x4 fencing like the video posted in this thread.

Anything else I can do to make the coop more fortified without breaking the bank?

Jeebus! Thats nearly what I have in the whole coop.

Its not cheap, but you don't have to close them in at night and open it in the morning. Plus when we go on vacation we don't have to worry about them either. It is well worth it for me. There are plenty of days and nights when we aren't around to manually open and close a door and this keeps the drafts out which is the big thing for us in the winter, we haven't had any problems with predators (knock on wood)

Our 3 new chicks are almost 4 weeks old now. Little longer we will start introducing them to the others.

i stopped at Rural king on the way home the other day from my buddies place. he was talking about how his meat turkey order got cancelled this year and a bunch of people are mad cause they were gonna buy thanksgiving turkeys from him. well Rural king had 30 turkey chicks, so looks like im raising 30 turkeys for a couple weeks.

Put down fresh shavings, and a lot of em. They are loving the roosting bars as well.

@JSJJ388 got any eggs yet? We still don't have a single one but our one rooster is starting to harass/rape the hens so I take that as a sign that they getting old enough to reproduce.

Chicken sex is pretty graphic, angry, and loud:lol:

None yet. We are on layer feed for a few weeks now. I still need to finish the boxes

Munchkin still loves helping with the "bok boks".

Our anniversary gift was our first egg today!

Ours started laying on Saturday. So far we have had 5 eggs drop. Little bit smaller than "normal" but they are all organic/free range.

First one I cracked was a double yoke too and it was delicious.

Anybody want this bird? She fell of the truck yesterday. Free to a good home if you pick up, or at the meet up. Can deliver for laying hen :D
