Random confession thread

I’ve been banging my head on the steering wheel for 6 months trying to figure out why I couldn’t get my Atlas into 2 HI, rear wheel drive. I just realized while wheeling this weekend, I put the knobs on the wrong sticks. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!!

I once tore my bikes carbs down like 3 times to try to figure out a blogging issue. After I put them back in the last time I realized the fuel hose had caved. On another not I must confess to murdering lifters like it’s going out of style. High lift cam on a jeep 4.0 and hydronic flat tappet lifters. Now I have a dead miss for the number one and a few more weak ones. Time to rebuild again.

Years ago I drove 3 hrs away for a weeks vacation and left my bag in the closet. Only had the clothes on my back. Shorts, T-shirt, and flip flops. Everyone else’s bags got packed, but I somehow overlooked mine in the chaos. Idiot.

Almost to Williamsburg, VA & realizing I left my wallet on the dresser....weird feeling all weekend - luckily wifey likes me, bought me pretty things all weekend.

I used to worry about that. But, Walmarts are everywhere, and you can get everything you need to make it thru a weekend or a week. A friend does big-time wildlife photography, makes a decent living from it. He quit carrying a spare body and stuff, because even in deepest Africa, you are usually just a couple or three hours from someplace that has one of the latest, greatest in a box on the shelf.

Did put our bikes on the car rack once, and headed for the mountains without my front wheel.

Is your friend C-3P0?

Drove all the way to the Flats then remembered I left the keys for the trail rig at the house! Extra keys in tow rig now.
Done that before. Have the same solution too!

Was headed out to do some camping at Oregon inlet. After driving 5 hours and finally on the big bridge in to Nags Head...the wife wakes up and asks if I remembered the 'stakes'...told her we'd get the 'steaks' at the store in the morning. Then realized what she meant, broke in to a cold sweat, and realized I left the tent stakes and poles on the tailgate of my truck. Odd how few camping stores/options are in Nags Head...so we turned a $25 KMart 1 person tent into a 2 person tent for the week.

Loaded up the dirtbikes for a day of fun at Brushy with a couple of friends, only to realize that I made the 1hr 30min trip with my SON's helmet, and not my own.

I was working on my 86 wagoneer, putting a starter solenoid on it. Tried 3 solenoids before I remembered that it had to be screwed down to get a ground. I felt like a real crappy mechanic.....

Pulled a boat to the lake, dropped the trailer in the water had all the tie downs un-hooked and realized the key was at home.
Another time I soberly dropped the boat in the water and forgot to put the plug in. True story. Felt like a real dumbass.

dont feel to bad we put a boat in for the first time of the year. didn't have the water intake pipe on tight enough on the inboard, i was sitting in the back and kept saying we should be going faster then looked down and my feet were in water.
i jumped in to see if we left the plug out, it was low 50s and water was close to 40. plug was in it took us forever to figure out what was going on.

One time I was so broke, I did an oil change WITH used oil.

I did that one night changing oil in the truck, but it was by accident. Standing over the motor with a 5 gallon jug of Rotella, started thinking, "This stuff smells a lot like used gas motor oil". That's because it was.

Worst 4x4 thing I ever did was when I worked on my '75 K-10 mud truck...front u-joints were bad. Decided to yank it out one evening & have it ready for the week-end.

Laying on my side, passenger side of truck, I removed the hardware & then the shaft would not come out. Proving my teenage manliness, I ripped it out...realizing only then why it was stubborn. The 203 t'case, yes full-time 203 t'case, was the cause. The truck proceeded to push me down the slight incline using the front tire on my head. Luckily, I slid painfully down the 5-6 feet, when the rear bumper found a tree, instead of the 35's going over my head.

Being too broke for 44's paid off that day....
