Day 11 of my 13 days of Christmas (vacation):
I could really feel things starting to wind down yesterday, so I figured I better get started on a project on the wife's list. She's been wanting built in cabinets on either side of the fireplace from the beginning, but the cabinet guy was too expensive during construction, and her husband was too busy, so it hasn't happened.
Finally made the first cut, so there's no turning back now. Next step was to cut out the profile in the old oak boards on the fireplace. It pained me a little bit, but making this much dust INSIDE my nice, clean house probably pained me more.
Once that was done I set about building the frame and making it work. For the most part, the walls were pretty square and the floor was level. The back wall sheet rock had a little bow to it, but it was livable.
And what project is complete with having to deal with some electrical stuff...
Sizing up for trim. Fortunately I didn't have miscuts.
Needed to make some custom width trim, and it was raining so I didn't wanna carry stuff down to the real table saw in the shop. So I just used a wood blade in my tile saw in the floor of the garage
Worked well enough that I ended up ripping all the shelf boards with it too
Still need to build doors and put some trim on the shelf fronts, but its coming together. For reference on the scale, its 47" wide and 97" tall.
I'm very pleased with the fit and finish of everything. This Milwaukee miter saw is world's better than the Kobalt one I had.
