Random pic thread.

Did you get the gear you needed for it?
Ha yes long story short. Found a guy in OH 88yrs old no internet or cell phone. Wanted $4-5 for it. Instead of $100 off flea bay or $250 for new.
Waiting on a flat ship rate box filled it goodies in addition to the part. Hopefully early next week.told him to fill it with bearings quill drills or anything that would go with the press. Told him nothing over $50. He wants a check when I receive it. OLD SCHOOL FOR SURE.

Well since we're on tools, I picked up this sweet Arboga GL2508 drill press today:

Machinery dealer gave me a really good price on it when I looked at it 3 weeks ago (not under power) because he said it made a lot of noise when running. When i got there to pick it up today, he said he had screwed up. I thought he meant he had dropped it when moving it, but turns out he meant he had screwed up because he had it powered up and there was nothing wrong with it. It runs great! I offered him more, but he refused, and would only accept his original price.

Also got my "little" vise installed on my work bench that I picked up last week. The vise looked like it was completely rusted over, but it must have been a layer of grinder dust or something. 10 minutes with a wire brush got it cleaned up to what appears to be original paint. Sweet!

I’ll post twice in a day and move it onto guns. Let me start with I’m a19 year old kid starting collage in January. My first gun, a Remington 870 shotgun in 12 gauge. Got it for 145 at a local pawn shop. Also got lucky with the magnum receiver so I can run more ham one size shell. Put 20 shells of 00 buck and 5 slugs. It is a bit off target but for what I got in it I can flip it but it’s my first gun so it stays for a while. The date code tells me it’s either a 1976, 1988, or 2015 although 2015 is out of the question. Needs some work to make it good again and has some minor rusting on the barrel but out of 25 shells only one failed to eject. And it’s got some feeding issues. But I sprayed it down with wd to stop the rust and will get it oiled with real gun oil. I got most of the rust off with a paper towel wet with wd and some scrubbing. Lon story short some wood refinishing and she’ll look great.

If you haven't already, push the pins out of the receiver w a punch or phillips screwdriver, disassemble the the slide and clean the crap out of anything that is dirty until it functions smoothly. Clean the bolt/spring and firing pin, clean the crevices in the slide/ receiving end of the barrel especially where the bolt locks. Solvent and a toothbrush is your friend. If it does not have a removable choke it's probably an older gun.

That was my plan either tonight get familiar with it and do a full and proper cleaning tomarrow or just do it all tomarrow

Congress finally passed a bill that will allow military surplus 1911's to be imported/sold through TheCmp.org (Civilian Marksmanship Program). Probably take a year or so before they sort them and put them up for sale though.

But I was doing some reading about what sort of shape we can expect them to be in, and found this picture. (Which is NOT one of the ones going to be sold.) ;)

A little vintage custom work on my BSA foot locker circa 1986+/-. I was about 10-12 years old. I sold it to a guy in the early 90's with all of my R/C stuff it was holding at the time. He still has it in his mom's basement and is going to get it back to me!
