who knows. The way things are done these days the unlock is probably controlled by digital logic in the ECU so it uses it own bus wire instead of the simple and obvious way of it just being a dumb standalone unit
Pretty sure all the current keyless entry pads for Ford are actually just fancy cryptographic keyfobs... That's why they are Dealer Install now. Sadly though, you have to have FDRS (Ford Shop Software) to program them to the vehicle.
6g Broncos have had them from the start.
The one advantage to that is they can go anywhere, they don't have to go on the door, Alot of guys are putting them inside the Gas door...
