Random Thoughts.....

We spent the weekend in New Jersey. First time I've ever stopped in the state aside from getting gas.

I see zero reason to ever return.

Its been 25 years, but southern NJ actually had some nice rural areas back in the late 90s.
I specifically remember gibbs town and cow town as places I didnt hate.

Sherbet melts way too quickly for something so sweet and delicious. Not enough time to really enjoy it.

My wife's car goes to the dealer for her oil changes because it has a lifetime warranty and I don't want any grief when something needs warranty work. Thats the only thing I've ever taken somewhere.

FYI, a law was passed several years ago that made it illegal for a mfr to require that maintenance was done by them, or even anyone (you can do yourself) in order to maintain the warranty, unless they provide the service to you for free.
Now does that mean they won't try and give you trouble about it? Nope.

When we bought our Mini, they were explicit you had to have them do it, but they included it for "free" for teh first 3 years, which is also exactly how long the warranty lasts....

A local dealer has a thing "Jones for a lifetime" where you get life time warranty even on used cars engine (explicitly ONLY engine) but similarly they include free oil changes and "health inspection". And during said inspection they of course find plenty more that "needs: to be done....

The warranty states I can do it myself, but I still take it in because their record keeping is much better than mine 😂. Plus they do a pretty good inspection every time and catch stuff before it becomes a big deal.

My wife’s car had the Fred Anderson lifetime warranty or whatever. It was a total scam. Maybe the first three oil changes were free, then you gotta pay. Also have to do all the recommended scheduled maintenance through them for them to honor the warranty. One of the scheduled maintenance items was a $1200 vaccuum pump replacement at 120,000 miles. 🙄

My mom's CRV has 31k on it, and to maintain her "dealer warranty" she has to have the brake lines flushed 🤦🏿‍♂️ she asked me if that were required

I told her if she had taken her car up to VIR and ran a weekend with the Porsche club MAYBE...but $600 for a brake flush on a 2 yr old car that's driven by a granny is in NO need for a $600 BRAKE FLUSH

You might want to look up the Magnuson Moss warranty act. This may not be enforceable

MM only applies to manufacturer warranties. 3rd party warranties arent really warranties. technically they are insurance contracts

agree no reason for a brake line flush, but honestly - the point of the flush is to remove water contaminated fluid. Cars driven more frequently and harder are actually less likely to have issues than occasional granny cars. Unless the hard charger pushes it to the point of thermal breakdown...or temp cycles it enough for inline condensation to be an issue.

Sorry...nerd mode off

Just learned something new about one of our warehouse temp workers. Long story ahead.

We have a young guy that works in our warehouse. Doing anything and everything from sweeping floors to "operating" our CNC CAD table. Operating meaning to the extent of start, stop and load a new sheet of MDF. Anyway, just one of these guys that barely passed high school if at all, but is just happy to be here and always in a good mood with a smile on his face. He walked up to me and our floor supervisor saying he couldn't get the bit to in a drill. He was trying to fit the socket end of a 1/4" drive Socket torx bit into a drill.

My floor supervisor asked for a minute and she would help him, then asked him to meet her at her desk. I gave her a bless his heart kind look and she proceeded to tell me his story.

He was sent here by the Temp agency and he basically knew nothing about tools or production or much of anything we do when he walked in the door...obviously still learning. anyway, she saw him walking to the office one morning and asked him where he was coming from. He just said, "Oh, not far." come to find out, he was homeless. His first paycheck went to one of pay by week motels, and he saved up enough to buy a car, then enough for a deposit on an apartment, but he needed a bank account. So now he has a bank account and he's waiting the 2 months requirement of having an account to get his apartment.

In his time here he has learned to operate the CAD table, and use many tools (to which he now knows you need a 1/4" drive adapter for that socket torx. :D

One day a couple month ago, he was found leaning on a table and was given the "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean" speech. He said Ys Ma'am, it's just my legs are killing me right now. please give me a minute. Why do his legs hurts you might ask? well, he was at his nieces birthday party and there was a drive by shooting that caught both his legs. he has pins and screws all in his legs from this.

His parents are dead, his Grandma lives in Charlotte, his estranged sister lives here but doesn't talk to him. Yet this guy is always freakin' smiling and has the best attitude. He ain't too bright, but only because of a lack of education. He picks up everything we lay down. Someone that can smile through all that is amazing to me. But I guess when you come from LITERALLY nothing and you've now built up what you have, I guess things look a lot brighter you.

After all that, I would be pushing them to bring him onboard. Someone that learns, shows up, and wants to be there is worth trying to keep, these days.

We've had one or two come through like that. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but will out work anyone to make up for it. Ill take that over a lazy know it all any day of the week!

Perspective is a useful, wonderful thing!

Well, I finally had a flat earth discussion with a TRUE Flat earther. A guy I’ve known for 10 years and never knew he was.

He’s not trolling, he honestly believes! I was too busy laughing in his face to every answer he would give to my questions to be effective at disproving him.

My favorite answer to some questions was his simple “I don’t know I’m not a scientist”.

He says gravity is a theory. So what holds us to the ground? “I don’t know, I’m not a scientist” 😂😂😂

This guy is really logical in everything else I’ve ever discussed with him. He’s not an idiot. But this had me blown away.

The final boss for flat earthers should be -if the earth is flat there must be an end to it. Where is the end and who has ever falllen off it?

His answer was the Antarctic treaty. No one has been to the edge because no one is allowed to go that far.

I gave up my line of questioning on the basis that you can not win against ignorance. It will drag you down and beat you every time.

A flat surface has at a minimum 4 edges. Unless the Antartic is North, South, East and West - his theory breaks down.

I hear you on arguing with an idiot., however all evil and stupidity needs in order to win is for intelligence and good to stand by and do nothing.
