Raptors... frames too weak for offroading?

Sounds like you know what to fix then. Get to it. I want to see the raptor go up that ledge. Why didnt you go up daniel? If a stock cherokee can go up it, an f150 should be able to.

No but it can do it. I've done every trail at URE but Daniel and actually hitting Kodak rock.

I don't think I would brag about hitting every trail as something special. I ran every trail including Kodak with a stock TJ 4 banger, oh I did have 32x11.5 super swampers on it. The trails at URE aren't that difficult. Even Daniel is simple with modest modifications to your vehicle.

Sounds like we need a performance test at the DPG ecors race!

My Raptor is mostly stock. His Power Wagon isn't stock it wouldn't be fair.

I'm getting soaked with all this pissing contest going on over this.... Both trucks have there pros and cons, kinda like if you had a cummins in a ford with an allison behind it, You would have the best of each brand....
I will give both props for actually using there trucks...
FLAME suit on for my comments I know.

^question is, do you like getting soaked in this manner???? And a fire suit wont help, methinks

(I just want to see dude run an ecors race!!!)

Nah, the real contest would be to take the both of them out in the desert, stock for stock, and watch the PW try to keep up. :driver:

Raptor - Made to look good, sound good, and go fast , Mostly Baja type stuff .
Both nice trucks both will do what they where built too

But I think here is the rub - "go fast, mostly baja type stuff" and "frame bends from hitting a big bump while driving fast" don't exactly go together.

I... don't think you understand that there's an order of magnitude of difference between what you're describing and what actually happened.

Kinda like the spark plug problem on the new body style f150s.
Not at all IMO. Spark plugs was fords design problem. If a raptor has 12" of travel, assuming its 6"up and 6"down, you hit a 12" bump. Do the math. The frame cant absorb the other 6".

I get that you are into racing. I'll be the 1st to say the power wagon is not built for racing or going fast. It is a heavy truck built more for going anywhere, work and filling up at gas stations.
For that matter I don't think I would race the raptor either. Not because of limitations but because of Ford's position. The owner's manual seems pretty clear. Racing = no more warranty, no aftermarket parts or face warranty denial. Seems like raptor owners can be between a rock and a hard spot. the only mods they actually recommend are safety mods.

Personally I think cavitation is what most likely is occuring. The raptor owners keep talking about what sound like long trips and not big jumps. If a shock gets too hot it will loose its ability to control movement. cavitation is vacume bubbles in the shock fluid when too hot which makes the valving null and void till the shock cools down. IMO kickers (as they put it) in the video are an indication its time to let the shocks cool down

Bottom line is if you owned a raptor you would probably do the following fixes. (assuming warranty is done)
1.reinforce the frame, tube the rear or slight lift
2.learn about cavitation it may save ones life
3.upgrade to bypass shocks, install jounce shocks or even better have all 3 (stock, bypass and jounce) installed.
4.dial that all in with different shim stacks/valving.
5.look for the next weak links.

August 20th I will be meeting another Power Wagon at Uwharrie. He's stock, has stock dodge rock rails and on 35"s. Not sure what trails we will do. It will be up to the group. (we are trying to get more power wagons to go on another site) We'd love it if we could get some raptors to go also.

I'm down to go but we will see if my truck is good to go by then.

Awsome! It looks like a 3rd power wagon might be going as well. I'm not sure of the 3rd power wagons mods. looks like he may be moving his rig towards baja like the raptor. I'll send a PM.

Whitey, I am with you, you are expert for the area we are headed to. You pick the trail and I will be right behind you. See you there.
