Remember that time.

most common for me is climbing under to wrench on something, and realizing then I didn't put on eye prtection.
"Eh, it'll be quick, shouldn't get in my eyes".
45 seconds later....
...scrambling out from under, up the stairs to bathroom blind and cursing myself...
I got most of the rust picked out of my left iris on Saturday and drilled the rest out on Tuesday. I usually don't think of eye protection until the first rust shower (narrowly averting disaster). Next time, I'm stapling goggles to my head before I do anything.

After working in a shop for 10 years I have a few good ones.
At my old job we had a pit and I was right behind a guy going down the stairs into it. As he goes under the rear of the semi, he hits his head right on the rear diff. Knocks him out cold and he about took me down as I tried to set him in the floor.

One night our boss had to go up a ladder and help back a drill bit out of guys hand. He was drilling a hole in a air shild and when the bit went threw it hit his hand.

Last spring I was cutting the cab shocks out from under a semi with the torch and the cab fell on my hand, traping it tight with the torch still on. Had to have someone come cut the tanks off on the torch and then pry the cab up to get my hand out.

Been dang near knocked out cold doing the same thing when the bit caught and spun the handle into ye old noggin. nothing a Newcastle couldnt fix!

yep....gave myself a black eye like this not too long ago.

First, 2offroad... that's funny, I'm imagining see that on Funny Videos.

21 scars from cuts on both hands.

Metal in the eye, didn't know it was in there til the next day when my eyelid was hurting. Went to the mirror and saw it. Then went to the urgent care, they put numbing med. in and began to prick it out. The room was quiet and you could hear the metal and needle poping together. But still had to go to a eye specialist to get the rest out.

A few welding scars on arms and legs.

Oh yea and my favorite one. While sitting on the ground, wearing a one piece insulated suit, blue jeans, and a nice pair of underwear, a piece of slag managed to reach the "Boys' sack".

I have hit my head many many tines crawlingout from under the Jeep. The other thing I do all the time is push so hard on a bolt that when it breaks loose I crush my fingers between my wrench and something else.

Fell off a ladder the other week while I was working on the F-350. First time I have ever fallen off a laddedr and man it hurt. My wife came out the door just in time to see it.

Working at a tire shop years ago, pulling wheels off a Ford Crown Vic, had locking lug nuts. The Lug "key" had a cable attatched around it so it could be connected to lug wrech for safe keeping.

I had successfully removed 3 wheels by just tapping trigger on impact gun, and spinning lug key while holding cable.

Last wheel, just as I hit the trigger, manager of the shop walked up behind me and started babbling about something, BURP SPIN, full power on the gun. lug key snatched the cable right outta my hand along with a hand full of skin.

And I knew better than to do what I was doing, just didn't wanna take the time to do it by hand.

I still have that scar, it reminds me often about trying to do things quick and easy.

#1 - stabbing myself w/ a screwdriver in the eye socket working on the "last" spring on my drum brakes after breaking the brake tool.

#2 - pulling the front driveshaft out of my '75 Chevy to fix a bad joint.....forgetting it was a 203 truck. The front tire tried to run over my head for about 3 feet before the truck stopped on the timbers bordering the driveway. It is a very odd feeling being pushed long ways by your head, under the leading edge of a tire, on gravel.

By the way, that ankle.....OUCH!!

Doc

It seems everytime I use a razor blade to cut something I end up cutting myself somewhere. The worst insident ~ Cutting some electrical tape I cut the tip of my left indext finger off about a mm deep.

Trying to make a new E-brake cable I stabed myself in the thumb with some frayed wire.

Trying to remove the upper rear mount to my shocks using the impact one handed, the socket slipped off of the nut and the socket took a nice chunck out of my right ring finger.

And those are just the most recent times.

The funniest incident~
First time out to Uwharrie about 3 hours into our trip. I hop out of my jeep to give someone a spot. The ground I step one is hard red clay with a thin layer of soupie clay on top. I lost my footing a busted my arse and slid down into a mud pit.

Working under the back end of my truck and raise up to get tools and hit my head on the tailgate 3 or 4 times before shutting it

I didn't look at the dates, I just started reading, trying to wind down before going to bed. Didn't realize it was an old thread till........ I read my post!

One time I was helping someone change the brakes on his S-10 Blazer. We had it jacked up in the front yard, wheels off, calipers off and all. Putting the new pads on, I realized I had sat with my legs under the truck. Something in the back of my head said move dumass. I did. Not 2 minutes later their dog came running out from around the back of the house and jumped up into the back of the truck knocking it off the jack stands and the calipers dug into the ground right where my leg was just a few momments prior.

Add me to the list!!!!!

I have been there many times, I'd list them all, but I don't have three days to enter all that info. Lets just say, I cannot believe I'm still alive! Y'all covered about 1/2 of them so far. Had my left eyeball polished to remove the rust ring that the metal shaving left, since I didn't get it removed until the next day. They polished it with A really small ball bur. Only numbing drops for anesthesia. Hardest thing I ever had to sit through, & I was wearing safety glasses, when it happened. Any time A doctor looks at my eyes they ask if I had work done. How about A hot blob of molten metal in my ear, may have passed through my eardrum, & still be there. That one ranks pretty high on the ultimate pain list too! Safety first, & second, & third...... Oh, and Also need to ad for benefit of younger members, when I lived in Philly, A kid around the corner from me, was found by his parents. Inside his closed garage, he had been working on his firebird. his folks came home from shopping to find that the scissor jack fell over, & their sons head was crushed under the right front brake rotor. No jack stands, & one less 18 year old boy! lets make sure, the car wont fall on us before we crawl under it people. It's not rocket science, get some jack stands, if you don't already have them.
