I threw a stick of firewood to scare the herd of deer out of the backyard last night around 9pm, hell of a racket when they bolted off. This morning 10 deer were bedded in the fenced backyard. I chased them out again and they came back 15mins. later and layed down near our fence again, 2 were laying against the fence. I recon they were trying to hide from the Coyotes they can't hear stalking them in the snow last night and know the Coyotes do'nt like to come near our yard because our dogs are out there now and then. I'm gonna hafta try to keep them out cause both dogs are older and 1 has bad hips and hurt herself chasing them a few days ago. I also saw her eatin some fresh deer poop this morning! They have become a nusiance because 2 doors down an elderly neighbor is feeding them corn 24/7. I have a slingshot, but want a cheap paintball gun to tattoo/spook them. I'm sure the neighbor will not stop feeding them, even if a wildlife officer speaks to her about it.

Don't paintball them, that's a ticket and jail time waiting to happen! I vote mortars for the win.

Yea any type of harrasment is probly a crime. I don't think the " it was coming right for me! " defense would go over real well w the lawmen and she would LOVE to call them if she saw me harassing "her" deer. I just had an idea, gonna hang a loud SS pipe windchime where they like to jump the fence tomorrow and run a string to it I can yank from the porch, that should'nt be harassment but scare them pretty good.

I know in previous threads you have stated she begs you not to hurt them... You have been overly understanding thus far, and clearly its time to stop.

The way I see it, you have two options.

1) Bowhunt them now... very discretely.
2) Wait til September and come out swinging... I know their are plenty of folks on here who would love to hunt near your Food Plot...

Thought of something else too, but never used them so not sure how well they work, if at all. Invest in some deer repellant, and Spray it all around her property. Lol

Let her keep feeding them. They'll be good sized come next hunting season :D I see no reason why sitting on your porch in full camo isn't still sporting!

I would never break hunting regulations or take any game out of season, that type of stuff will get your hunting license revoked possibly for life and not something I want to happen. Shooting these deer would be like shooting fish in a barrel, they have about lost all fear of humans and apparently my old dogs. Also the elderly lady has recently told a neighbor her cancer in remission has come back, she's an alcoholic, her only son was killed in Hawaii 6 years ago and the killer got out of jail after 2 years greatly upsetting her, I feel sorry for her. I considered talking to her about it, or contacting the game warden, but I really feel bad about upsetting her any more than she is now. I would like to hunt the Coyotes but accessing the woods down the creek discretely w the leaves off the trees would be impossible and require landowners permission I probly won't get, I am looking into it though.

is there even any regulations pertaining to feeding wildlife? or are you wanting a depredation permit, just wondering?
I have a dozen ceadar trees as a privacy fence that the deer love to rub and break down, i found that buying the cheap dollar store perfumes and aftershaves and pouring them around weekly worked good for me and it was really cheap, a bottle would do about 3 treatments and on the last time i would leave the lid off the bottle and sit it under the trees, may help ya, if not at least your yard will smell like Joe Dirte!! (I tried to get my wife to let me use Axe to see if the commercials were true but no dice.)

Ask your barber to put the hair that he sweeps up in a trashbag. Spread that around the fence. All of the different smells will make the deer uneasy.

I did that years ago to keep them out of a garden and it worked for a few weeks, I stuffed pantyhose with the hair and hung it around the garden. After a few weeks they started to ignore it so I hung some rags soaked in ammonia, that worked but they had to be soaked about once a week and after it rained, but that would probly affect my dogs too. Fixin to hang the windchime and see how it works, I imagine it will startle them good as they will also see it moving/hanging while making loud noises and may stay away from it for a while. This morning when I let the dogs out Boobear made a beeline for the area she found the deerdroppings yesturday, looking for a snack :shaking: she looked back at me totally busted, when I hollered at her  I've started calling her Poobear now.

Now you have me feeling sorry for the neighbor. Sounds like she could used a break and something to smile about. Sounds like a complicated situation, but I am glad you are a nice guy and taking her feelings into account.

Carry her a deer burger as a peace offering....

That's funny.........a few years ago I brought some deerburgers to the neighborhood 4th of July party we have every year. She found out about the deerbugers, and she got upset, made a big scene berateing me and refused to eat anything that was grilled on the the same grill. So the party host, fired up another grill just to cook her a hamburger! Her horror of us eating some bambiburgers caused a few neighbors to discretely grab and sneak off to eat them.

That right there, her attitude... I would throw Bambiburger parties as often as possible and if she didn't like it she could go home or sit there hungry.

Ha ..After reading this, I've changed my mind...forget her ''feelings'' you should grill deer every day.

Did I mention she's not from around here and has an accent that hurts my ears? She has fallen and broke bones, arm/leg 2 times in 5 years (drunk) and I've offered to help out afterward, but she wants no help from me though she asked for help from other neigbors frequently. I used to smile and wave to her from the yard as she walked her dog past our house or while slowly passing them in my truck on our street, but she just looks back at me w no expression and no wave back so I now ignore her in passing.

yup I vote he be the better person and donate her a half gallon of everclear to marinate in, that should make her feel better after 5 or 9 shots!!

Worried about being legal? You got a garden? Apply for a nuisance animal permit to kill the "problematic wildlife." I say kill and eat. I'd do it with a bow or crossbow, a suppressed 17 or 22 would get the job done in the ear at close range, go for the larger does and the rest will get the message.

I have no problem dealing with any wildlife in my yard eating, stealing, damaging, or harassing my animals, garden, ect. This includes your pets.
I have the respect to keep mine where they belong I expect others to do the same. After fefe or or filow get run off twice the next trip is to a dirt nap. Wild coons, possums, and jerky on the hoof get no second chances when my chicken, beef, or veggies are on the line!

I'm afraid the only joy in her life is watching the deer in her backyard. If she was'nt old, sickly and pitifull I would get a permit and wack the deer right now. A neighbor at the end of our road and a friend of his killed 8 during bowseason, in his backyard 2 years ago. She found out and pleaded/ convinced him to stop shooting them. I'm gonna try to keep them out of my yard, and wait for her to pass away. Then I will be thin out the herd.
