Riding mountain bike?

Look for the carbon fiber destruction testing video from Santa Cruz from a few years back, should help put your mind at ease a bit.

The biggest difference between alloy and carbon will be aesthetics and the bro-talk at the trailhead. Once you are on the bike, especially a full suspension, I would challenge you to find a difference in ride between the two. Weight for the most part is negligible, especially at the enthusiast level; you will notice a much greater difference in carbon wheels if you are seeking a weight/feel difference in your bike.
That’s basically what I’ve been seeing the more I read into it.

How often do y'all hit your frames? I've had a few crashes on my Giant Trance carbon frame and its held up fine. I figure my fatass landing a jump is a lot more force on it than just the bike flying through the air. Heck, doing a stoppie has to be a couple thousand ft-lbs of torque on the headtube.
I tend to have really stupid crashes when I get not really trying and just playing around and I’ve put some dents in frames that way, I would just hate for a small crash like that be what cracks a carbon frame and end up having to replace it.

I’ll bet you wouldn’t notice much if any difference between a C/AL frame. I recently started riding a Carbon bike and it’s a bit lighter but not very noticeable. The thought of hitting the frame is always in the back of my mind. Had I not gotten such a good deal on it I would have just stuck with AL. The parts list on this bike is what sold me.

Where are you riding near Vale?
Right now we’ve been riding lake Norman on Tuesday evenings and pee wees in lincolnton on Thursday evenings. Then on the weekends just wherever but trying to get some Pisgah and further up the mountain trips planned out for cooler weather.

my new to me bike will out do anything I can....the manufacturer also backs it with a lifetime warrantee for the original owner. My original owner is a friend so I am not worried about a claim. The over all feel is stiffer and a much lower center of gravity. I also really dig the smooth lines. My talent usually runs out or my energy before I get terribly wild. Me doing any riding is an accomplishment. I don't pretend to be able to run long distances or leap small buildings so my feature list was short. Good smooth shifting, great brakes, simplified controls and.......oh who am I bullshitting!

Carbon was available, cool, and at the right price. I rode a aluminum Trek for years but if I can afford another carbon I would not hesitate.

Say the word dude. I live across the street from Dupont and 10 minutes from Pisgah.
Seriously, lemme know when you come up

@Jody Treadway - if I ever get the chance to get up your way, you know I’ll look you up for a ride out there! Jealous seeing all the pics you post on your Instagram feed, other than the rattle snake pics. I’ve been around a few of those and am not a fan.

The industry is pushing the big travel high end bike. For a lot of folks, it isn’t as rosy as the key players make it sound. Good, quality components and a bike suited to the actual use a person will give it, both terrain and frequency/duration of use, are what I focus on.

Buddy, you say when and Lisa and I are ready! Follow her on IG. She takes a bunch of pics on her runs too. @trailrunner07 is her handle.

@trevoringle Lightning Cycles is hosting an Ibis demo day at Hickory park Friday October 4th from 4-7. Go demo one for free to see if you like them. I just ordered an Ibis Ripley.
Actually ended up buying a stumpjumper from them about a week and a half ago. They had a 2019 that was a return and got a pretty good deal on it with a dropper post and some nice pedals already on it.
