Riots At My School

or expulsion from CMS schools, which im sure will happen.

I wasnt at charlotte schools. I went to guilford county..Ragsdale High School but we had alot of problem schools, andrews, central etc.. alot of poor community schools in the hood.

Don't even get me started about discipline in schools today. It is definitely the problem of the parent's not taking responisiblity for their own children. We (yes, we because I teach 5th grade) are expected to be the parents of the children and teach them right from wrong. However, we are supposed to do this with basically no form of consequences to hold over them and oh yeah, let me add that we can't instill our moral judgement and value. We must use the value of their parents who didn't care about them enough to teach them the right way to begin with.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great kids and parents and I LOVE KIDS and that is why I teach because I truly care about their well being and at least if I am trying to do right by them they have someone in their corner when everyone else turns their backs.

It is really sad how little support some of these kids have at home. It would make you look a lot differently at how the high school kids turn out. :(

you're so full of it... i went to school with you... i KNOW. :flipoff2:
You never saw me be disrespectful to a teacher (other than not showing up from time to time). I seem to remember your old man giving you a good once over in the yard after we took his car for a spin at 15 and 2 o'clock in the a.m. :flipoff2: . I never got spanked in my days in school either, mostly because I knew whatever the school did was just a warm up for whatever the old man had in mind to punish my ass. Was I afraid of my old man? Hell yeah, did I respect him?..Hell yeah. He's 65 and I think he could still take me, I still try my best to keep him happy and make him proud. My parents had marital problems and the "rearing" of me did too when I was about 16...funny that's when I started acting like a jackass, right about the time I realized there was no more punishment. The lack of displine sent me spirling down hill all most to the point of no return, thank god I got straightened out. I look forward to having kids one day, they act like a fool, I won't hesitate to spank.

i grad from north in 98. i miss raisin hell there. that place is a major shit hole. a word of advise. stay out of trouble there, get good grades, and GO TO COLLEGE. i did all the above but stay out of trouble. but going to school and then to college was a great decision. dont get caught up in the bullshit, keep your head on straight and make something of yourself.

I Really do not think it has much to do with the schools. The problem is with the parents. Both my Parents were teachers and I saw the crap they had to deal with. they would have a student that was a problem so they would call the parents at home. A lot of time the parents were worse than the kids and they just did not give a crap.

If I got in trouble it was my parents I was worried about because they were on the same side as my teachers. I could not pull any crap and get away with it. As much as I do not want some else spanking my kid If they still had a paddle on the office I would be glad to come down and use it.

def wasnt highschool but you guys think public school is bad... well i never got spanked by my father for being so wild and what not... he just made me finish elementary in catholic school... and you gotta remember this is in the 90's and i still got the crap beat outta me in school... i tried threatening the teacher but she looked at me and said "we get paid to keep you in line" ... not to mention tuition from 3-6 grade was $5,000 a year... well lets just say i still to this day havent gotten in trouble and also dont go to church anymore... corrupt system if you ask me

I dont knwo about that Trebbisky. That actually sounds like the worst disciplining strategy in the world...random adults laying a hand on someone elses kid? I dont have children but when I do...i will certainly not tolerate a random adult laying a hand on them. I would be furious. I agree with Mikey, hitting is not necessary...but whatever a good spanking is up to the parents...i just think you can accomplish the same with talking. I was spanked when I was little for stupid shit that little kids do, but as soon as I was a lil older my parents never hit me. They knew they could accomplish more by talking to me.

Seriously...besides Treb. Anyone else okay with random adults physically disciplinning your kids?

9mm it wasnt nessicarily random adults in smaller communities everyone knew everyone else if you were screwing up someone saw it and your parents new about it even before you got home. im all for not spanking my kid as well but if she doesnt respond to other methods then her butt is gonna get spanked. talking works very good with her at this point in time. I am a single parent and personally i think ive done a decent job so far. a stern voice works very well with her. but then if she doesnt comply there always has to be a deterent.

some methods work with some kids and not with others. talking to me for example didnt work cause all i did was tune my parents out so i got my butt tore up, and yes that worked.

my mom works in the same school that my daughter attends and i let my daughters teacher know that if maria (my daughter) messes up just march her down to my mom and the problem will be dealt with 1st with words then if it happens again there will be punishment.

Crystal, First of all.. because I think teaching is one of the most honorable professions there is. Second, I totally agree with you. Teachers can only do so much. I went to my step daughters school once, while standing in the office a student was arguing with a teacher on why she had to go to her 2nd period class when she had to leave at the beginning of her 3rd class for a dr appt. After 5 min of arguing the teacher says.. fine dont go to your 2nd period, and i'll see you in ISS tomorrow.. The girl without skipping a beat say Ok.. So what? In being in the office for 15 min I couldnt believe how the students treat the teachers and faculity. I wanted to take my belt off and smack them right there!

on a different note.
I dont agree with the no kid left behind act.. schools arent keeping kids back that fail subjects because they will lose funding.

Ive been in ISS a few times :flipoff2:

its not that bad

**Just to add so I dont sound like a horrible kid that talks back like that, for example I got written up for saying "that pisses me off", Not even talking to the teacher, and this was a junior in highschool, I mean get real**

At the middle school I teach at we call it PDD, Parental Defficiency Disorder. I can usually tell what kinda parents a kid has by the type of student he/she is.

I didn't realize you were teaching these days!

I imagine it takes tremendous self-restraint not to wring some of their necks.

Yeah I had to finally get a job. Got my time from Nortel accepted so the pay isn't so bad when you consider it's no weekends, off at 4pm, all the holidays off and the summer. In addition my daughter goes to the school I teach at and my son will in 2 years. I'm teaching computers.
The 6th graders are cool, 7th graders are OK and the 8th graders are freaks. I've been able to influence some of them for the better but without parental support it's hard to make a real difference. I didn't think "kids" were as bad as they are.
