RIP Old friend

RIP to a good man. I've never met him, but the outpouring of support I've seen from this community says it all. We are put on this earth to positively influence others, bring them along, give them the opportunity to have more and know more than we did. That's what I've always been told. Sounds to me like he embodied that. I've enjoyed reading the memories. I've never even been on the Uwharrie trails, but if all works out, that'll change this weekend. Now I feel like I know the man behind the place.

My interactions with Scott were primarily professional, however from day 1 it was easy to tell what kind of person Scott was. He never met a stranger and his intentions were always clear. His vision was never about him, it was always how to make the community better. His passion for the hobby was rivaled only by his passion for God. Most of us call it a hobby, but wheeling was life for Scott. They say find a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life. He absolutely took that to heart. I have never met anyone who seemed to enjoy life more than Scott.

He always had a smile on his face, always seeing the positives, so I'll do the same. I take solace in the fact that Scott sits at God's table now, where he so rightfully deserves to be, free from pain. I know it's hard to lose someone, but such profound sadness can only come from extreme happiness. I can say without a doubt Scott was the finest person I have ever met, and if I can be even half the man he was, I would be extraordinarily blessed.

I went to URE on a trail hike back in January of 2012 to try and find a loop for the bottom of Daniel. I hiked out there with the group on the old Gold Mine trail. Scott was there with all of us and leading us around. We talked about how it would be such a great trail but the reality was that there were too much to over come. It was a great day in the woods with like minded people.

Was anyone involved with the Art Lilly Campground process? Frankly, without Scott, the OHV trails wouldn't exist, at least not in their current capacity. The Scott Fields Memorial OHV Trail Complex sounds a lot better than Badin Lake to me...

I've been calling the training /event / camping grounds across from the Outpost..Scott Field's Field for years. :)

Here's another photo from the archives... with a little history for the newer folks..... The Ranger in the photo is Jake Cebula. Jake suffered an aneurysm the same day the photo was taken and died shortly after. I believe the old-timers will back me up when I say that Jake and Scott were very close friends, and they were also very much alike in their love for Uwharrie Forest. It was a sad day in the 4WD community when Jake passed, and it is a sad time once again with the passing of Scott. However, I have little doubt that Scott and Jake are happily roaming the woods together again.

Looks like Rick Jackson as well.

It is Rick... I wasn't sure whether I should post names or not. Since you got Rick I will add Greg Spencer. He's the tallest one. His hand is touching his ball cap. I can't name any of the others.... too many years gone by.

Does anyone know how to contact someone with the forest to maybe start the process of naming an area after Scott? I think this would be a very nice thing to get accomplished in his memory.

Hmm what about the Scott Fields Lave View Trail.......?

A trail named after him would be an awesome way to remember him.

I only met Scott in person the one time I wheeled with a group at Big Creek. He was our guide. He was a great spotter and had a great attitude and great patience for all the different sorts of rigs and drivers in our rag tag group. Always had a smile on his face. Just seemed to have a great situation going and got to do and share what he loved. And from the outpouring I've seen since he was sick, apparently touched many lives in a positive way. What a great life lived. Condolences to his family and all of his many friends. RIP.
