Road Finds

I have a buddy that always picks up dates from the side of the road, oh wait, nevermind :D

chains and binders. on 85 north of charlotte---slow traffic cause of a wreck up ahead and saw em laying
on the sholder. pulled off and the old lady went back to get em. nice 3/8 x 25 foot or so with a binder too.
on a trail ride in mtn city tenn we found a 1/4 X 20 chain hanging in a tree in the middle of a trail i
still have and use these alot. back in the late 70s i found a plastic bag with 100 yellowjackets inside
(truckers know what these are).

Me and My brother used to call it "Road Treasure" when we were bored we'd just drive around in an old pickup and see what we could find laying around... some things worth mentioning: axe, hammer, tie straps, money, coolers, scrap metal, tackle boxes, 3 person tent, bag of plastic balls for like a fun house or something, rolls of new insulation for the house.

I miss those days.

damn, you guys have found some really awesome stuff. Really makes me want to just start walking around random areas, looking for stuff. I found a $10 bill once. Also found a pump sprayer that looked to be pretty new. @jcramsey I really wanna find a leaf blower like that!

I was pumped about the leaf blower. Getting tired of broom sweeping the sidewalks after I cut the grass. Both the blower and weedeater suffered from ethanol poisoning. New lines on both and a new carb for the blower and they are running strong. I've got less than $25 in them. We have a trash pickup day so that's when everyone tosses their junk. I have to get there before the scrappers do though because they all make their rounds. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm crazy but I don't care. :D

That is awesome! I am gonna start making my way around the neighborhood day before our trash day (which happens to be tomorrow). Might take me years, but hope I can find some cool stuff like that.

I was traveling down 321 from Hickory early one Sunday morning and found a Christmas tree laying in the middle of the road. Stuffed that 8' beauty into my yj

My neighbor had what looked to be a brand new husqvarna self propelled push mower sitting by the road for trash pickup. I asked him what the deal was. He said "screw this thing! I can't keep it running, it smokes like hell, and I payed like $450 for it!". He told me to take it if I wanted it. So I grabbed it and the first thing I noticed was oil drops below the exhaust. So I checked the oil. It was double the amount that should have been in it. Drained it, changed the oil, cleaned the filter, fresh gas, and bam! Cranks first start, and runs like a top with no smoke.

Can't say that I've found any road treasures that I can remember. I did find all this in the parking lot of my grandparents old store one evening a couple years ago.

Today on the way to work @ 70+ mph I "found" a 5' long piece of 6x6 treated post in the travel lanes of I-40 as I changed lanes . It "appeared" in front of me while I merged right, and a car ahead of me merged left. It was somewhat lined up w my direction of travel and I was able to straddle it. If I had been looking at a mirror or not looking at the road I probly would have hit it, I imagine w very bad results. I called *47 and told them about it as I counted my blessings

I picked up 6 feet of .188?x1.5x1.5 square tubing out of west Blvd about 2 months ago. People were swerving around it. I jumped out and grabbed it. It was about 200 degrees. But I'd be damned if I was gonna look like a pansy.

I often wondered if my wife and I were the only people who knew of *HP because they sometimes seem surprised when I call.

I called them a few days ago about a pile of chain and a big binder on 40.....it was 1/2 mile from where I saw the the 6x6. Be careful around the wade ave. 40 merge westbound in Raleigh. I also just remembered I found 10 big bales of pine straw on the eastbound ramp to 40 @ harrison ave. months ago. It was all up and down the ramp making an obstacle course for me and other drivers. I pulled over and picked it all up, gave it to a friend.
