Rockwells - Overall Costs vs 1Tons

My cost:

HP D60 front (88 F-350) $500 (incomplete)
New spindle $80
4.10 gears $FREE
Bearings/seals +- $200
Yukon 35 spline shafts (inner/outers) with spicer u-joints $575?
Hi-steer arms $110
Studs, bolts, etc +- $40
Drive flanges $160
Brake calipers/pads +-$160
Powerslot Brake rotors $FREE (LUCK!) would have been $68 shipped
Total: $1825
Sold my Hi-steer/lockright equipped D44 for $1000, with some other stuff, so it was worthwhile to upgrade.

Rear axle D70U out of 93 (or close) Dodge
$340 with rotors, 4.10 gears, and calipers off a Ford Van
Made caliper brackets (coupler hours of time)
Replaced limited slip diff with a welded diff (free, trade)
Total: $340 for a disc braked D70
I had sold my Toyota rear axle with lockright for $325, so I did OK.

I did not include (for front axle price):

tie-rod/draglink
hydro assist ram

great thread...

TY guys! I just picked up a set of D60's to build up and was wondering what it would all cost.

OK, Did it anyway :) Got a great deal on the front axle. Had gear install parts already. Made or reused most of what I needed. Numbers rounded up. Does not include small parts like LocTite, RTV, etc.

"I got $800 for the D30" Quote from above .... I think I got about 3 of these layin' around...Any takers??...

Awwww, just skip the rocks and go to ZF planets, also, throw in a 502, Allison tranny, Atlas/Stak/Profab/SCS case and some of them thar fancy coilovers. That's what I'll do when I hit the lottery.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am seeing $2500 as the cheapest 'front' rock, and maybe $1500 if you do rear with cheaper/welded, etc? So a pair is $4000-5500

D60 / combos appear to be $3500 to 5000 to BigWoodylike uber$

So costwise 60s are actually coming in at same level...you can spend $$ on rocks quickly, but you can also really cheap out and do $1500 versions welded and pinion braked.

Added weight (some axle, MUCH from tires)...prob reduces the effectiveness (ye olde light is right) Tire size is 'not' the factor since I am seeing BigWoody's "little" 39s in the same places as the 44 boys....maybe tomorrow we will see more.

And yes this is important, for those looking at scrounging up parts...and not sure which ads to be haunting.

It did have ARB, 4.56 gears, but I got the ARB used for $200, so I think I did real good on that one.

Seems you forgot the time/materials to get them under the jeep....or was that a bolt in replacement

Thats kinda the argument, rocks are as cheap or cheaper, but cost more to get in.

you all would be sick if I actually told what I had in my D60 front and D70/60 rear steer combo. Plus, its not really useful as a comparison because of the deals. Everyone has pretty much covered the basics
