Rockwells

A small Hijack (sorry), I have to ask, what does ROCKdubs mean? I'm assuming front and rear steering Rockwells on a rig? Sorry for the NOOB question! Thanks!:D

Ricky's attempt to be funny/cool/gangsta.. Kinda like Vanilla Ice, when everyone found out he was a rich kid from Houston.

W/e ya'll are just jealous of the awesome name I came up with, But I mean, not everyone appreciates a true genius at work :shaking:

dub is slang for either something referring to 20 or a "w" in this case a "w" is short for well thus ROCKdubs

In my case it works both ways since i not only have ROCKdubs I also have 20" rims for my 52's and dub is a common nickname for a 20" rim

OK, yeah, if you're a VW/Audi guy maybe..

Even then, who the hell says "I have Rockw's"? :flipoff2:

So, some tech stuck in the middle of this rant....

When you put a steering Rockwell in the rear of your rig, you have to spin the 'pinion-chunk' from a driver's side offset to a passenger's.

Anyway, the bolt pattern holding the bull gear/pinion assembly down on the axle is NOT symmetrical and not a simple matter of picking it up and rotating the whole chunk 180 degrees.

If you had a gasket, re-drilling the correct pattern on the bull-gear side would be the easier way (and if you could get it level on your bench it would be easier to drill out too).
We ended up re-drilling and tapping the axle-side bolt holes because Dave's gaskets were non-existent and couldn't otherwise devise a way of accurately transferring the bolt pattern...you'll also need to omit 2 of the retaining bolts doing it this way (just 1 more reason to drill out the chunk-side) just because the case design has some reliefs where you need steel to drill and tap a stud.

Not the end of the world by any stretch, just a bit of a last minute shocker if you weren't expecting it.

Dave... are you STILL not done?

:flipoff2: j/k, been following along on the ZR2 board, its really looking good...
