Ugh. While we were on vacation something broke in my dishwasher and flooded my kitchen. Ran all through the kitchen floor down through the subfloor and into the crawl space. All the flooring is ruined, cabinets are crap, and some of the subflooring is buckled.

Insurance has been filed and the disaster response people are hopefully coming out tomorrow.

Looks like I have some work ahead of me.

when i saw the title i thought "damn messican water still got him messed up did'nt even make it out of the kitchen!!"

damn that sucks!! no good time goes unpunished i guess!

Anybody turn off the water when they leave for vacation? I shut off the water and flip off the breaker to the water heater every weekend at my vacation spot, but I have never done it at the house. Thinking it might be a good idea.

Always turn my water and hot water heater off when I am going to be gone more than a day.

If we're gone for three days or more, water off, water heater off.

Sorry to hear, but same here, if we are gone for a few days we always turn off the water heater and valve off the water. We do the same at our place in Cherry Grove....

But one weekend my brother went down, and forgot to do that when he left. I got down a few weeks later and found the floor soaked, but not flooded. It was still enough to get a good mildew smell. Obviously whatever it was, wasn't still leaking, I checked the sink, still had water there, so no one had come by and shut it off...then out of no where a stream of water shoots out and hits the wall from behind the fridge! Somehow the line feeding the icemaker had worked loose, but luckily the electronic valve was mounted under the fridge, so there was only a 10 second stream of water intended to fill up the icemaker, then it quits. Apparently it operates on a timer rather than a float limit switch, that saved the kitchen from being ruined there.

Wish I were closer, I'd have me some of that insurance $$! Dishwasher/icemaker usually give me a job a month! Get rid of the plastic lines and use braided lines.

Last year I went on vacation and came back the fridge got hit by lightning and melted everything out in the floor. Luckily the MIL came by to get something like the day before we got home and found it and she had to clean all the mess up for us. Nationwide was on my side that time. They wrote me a check quick for the fridge and the food loss. Didn't have much food in there cause we took it all to the beach with us in the camper but they still give me $500 for food.

I never turn the water off, but my mother-in-law stayed here one day with my boys so she needed water anyway.

Insurance claim is in the works, will find out tomorrow hopefully. what they'll be giving us.

Hope it works in you favor.

Damn dude, that sucks, but since you have insurance let them fix it.

I hope your underwear is not in that condition anymore??? ...............My wife woke up at 4am today evedently w the stomach bug going around here, and now she's vomiting too :(, good news is i got to leave work to come home and bring meds/liquids and try to make her feel better. Work was slow anyway.

Who did they send out? There are several different companies that do emergency services up in your area. Make sure that you use a reputable company that specializes in insurance repair. Our closest office is in Fayetteville so too far for us.

Insurance guy hooked me up, really nice guy. They gave me almost twice what we were expecting. Tore out half the cabinets tonight and all the flooring, found some more builder/PO fun stuff.

If you mean the wire just run thru the sheet rock, that is common. Was there a microwave or lighting there?
