School Me On Yota Axles

Ok I think I am going on the look for a Front Toy Axle.

I am going to try and get one close to the width of my rear 8.8 (59.5 inches), Which should be do able.

My thinking is and correct me if this is a really bad Idea.

Get a '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners 55.5 inches wide, Swap over IFS Hubs (Puts it at 58.25) The run Spacers/Adapters to get to 62.25 width. And then add a spacer to the 8.8 to get it to 63.25.

So I am looking at 62.25 in the front and 63.25 in the rear. Which is not an issue I am currently about 1.25 difference front to rear.

You want the front roughly 0-2" wider than the rear, that way the rear tire tracks behind the front.

The biggest problem I see with that is you are going to have a HUGE scrub radius. You are adding 3-3/8" to each side of the front axle. No way would I do that.

why spend ~200 on a stock yota axle, then $650 on birfs...... i would just go ahead with a junkyard 60 for not hardly any more than what youd have in the yota axle. Get the added benefits of stability, the sky is th elimit on upgrades, and you'll end up swapping them in one day anyway :flipoff2:

I wouldnt bother with the 44/9 swap. the 9" would be an upgrade, but the 44 is hardly any better than the dana 30.

One word..... Weight!!!

Don't think 60s or 60/14B hasn't crossed my mind.

I started looking at this just like everyone else, I have a 8.8 in the rear of the my TJ which I feel good about seeing I wheel 35s and plan to run no larger than a 37 - 38 in the future. My main concern right now is gearing, I need a front axle that I can gear near or in the 5s. I don't want to regear the D30 to 4.88 and start breakin stuff. So I am trying to gather my info on what route to go, and work with my rear.

So the HP44 or a Yota front crossed my mind, Waggy 44s are also an option. I know I will have to adapt the rear to the front lug pattern.

Oh and theres a little more to it than just slapping on some IFS hubs. You have to get a spacer for the rotor so the caliper to work.

Right, then factor in the axle, Longfields, gears, hi-steer, IFS hub spacers, calipers, wheel spacers/adapters, hub/knuckle studs and then all the little stuff you will want to do (rebuild kit, gussets, diff protection). Its pretty easy to hit $1500 without even addressing the tcase issue.
