Ordered some 1 1/4 x.120 wall round tube from Tri-State steel last monday. I finally got it today (thursday). Well, even though I had to wait so long, I can't complain. I ordered 2 sticks of HREW tube, and they sent two sticks, but they were 22 feet long (I only got charged for 20'), but best of all, they were DOM and not HREW.

It only makes me wish I had ordered alot more than I did. The HREW was about $26 per 20 feet, and the DOM was something like $55 per 20'.

Just hope I come out as lucky next time.

Actually a lot of steel places do that. Tube comes in 20' sections most of the time, but sometimes come in 21' or 22'. Sanford steel only charges me for 20' even though some of it is longer.

so stealing from tri-state steel is considered a "score" now?

integrity is hard to come by these days! Enjoy the tube!

Not that I agree with it, but ya knew it was going to ruffle some panties in here.

Pipe (not tube) comes in 21' sections. Really throws me cause I'm use to ordering 20ft sections of PVC/cast iron and when I run gas I always have to re-train myself to think in 21 ft lengths

They could have simply factored that into the $/ft they quoted you and so possibly you really did pay for it and they felt it would be easier to do it that way rather than explain what random lengths mean and have you get upset at christmas time because you didnt order all that etc...

In what way is that "stealing"????? They screwed up and sent him the wrong stuff. He didn't go pull DOM off the rack and pass it off as HREW. Granted, true integrity would be to call up Tri State and tell them about their mistake, to which it would probably take them yet another week to get someone out to pick up the wrong stuff and deliver him the HREW that he ordered (which they apparently took their sweet time delivering), which will ultimately cost them more money than the difference between the two prices to begin with.

I say, chalk it up to an apology from Tri-State to you for taking so long by upgrading your order to DOM.

That is exactly what I was going to point out. I ordered it on a monday, they said it would be there tuesday, I called wednesday, then they said it would be there thursday, wasn't there again, then they said tuesday, I called the next wednesday, and they said it would be there thursday. No way would I call them and tell them they sent me the wrong stuff and wait another week and a half for them to correct their mistake. I needed it when I ordered it, not a week and a half later, much less 3 weeks.

Another guy ordered 1.5" HREW, and they sent him DOM also. They may have been out of HREW, or whoever loaded it messed it up. About the extra 4 feet, I am sure they knew about that, and it probably was factored in, but if they charged me for it I would not have felt cheated.

You all can think what you like, but I hardly consider it stealing when it was their mistake. I know it can be viewed kind of like a cashier only charging you half what you owe at a store, in that case, I do correct them (as I did on Wednesday at tractor supply), but I won't when it is going to delay my projects by at least another week.

I corrected the Harbor Freigh guy today. I handed him a coupon for $10 off and he was trying to give me 20% off. I promptly said, OH no, it's $10 off.

wow this place is like watching a bunch of kids. You guys would argue if someone said Santa Claus wears a red hat.:D

Anyway enjoy the upgrade on your tube. Personnally I would use it and not say a word about it. They would spend more money coming out to replace it and pick up the wrong stuff then the mistake cost them to begin with.

Big deal mistakes are made. It usually costs more to fix the situation anyway As a business owner I will be satisfied on making money on the other 99% of transactions ;)

Define Integrity...really would it be that great to call up Tri-state and get soem guy in trouble for shipping the wrong stuff right efore x-mas?

Honestly if a company screws up they are gonna eat it. Once the trasaction is finished and the delivery completed I believe he is legally entitled to whatever they left him. Just like if a person write "In full payment for X service/item" on a check and you cash it or deposit it... It doesnt matter if it was a check for a penny or a thousand dollars. You had ample chance to notice the mistake and correct it. If you dont correct the mistake it is the vendors liability and tehy eat the cost. I think thats right anyway. Im sure soem legal eagle will correct it if im wrong.

Incorrect. If it is a small amount a vendor will eat it usually because it isn't worth the hassle. But when vendors make mistakes in the hundreds or thousands it will be corrected and it happens more than you would think. Especially when purchasing software licensing since the licensing scheme is usually so hopelessly complicated that even the sales reps don't even understand it.

I've been watching this thread since the begining. Alright Tri-state is in the steel business, correct. This is what they do day after day. Do you really think you sh!t them out of $50 worth of tubing? I would say that more than likely they didn't have the HREW or weren't going to get it for a while. So they just sent what they had for you inconvience. You came out to the good I guess, but you still had to wait 2 weeks to get the material. I'd say you broke even and get back to work on your project. Then lets go have another Miller...
