Scratch resistant polarized sunglasses

See.... $10 gas station specials. I've had these for a WHILE, like 5 minutes. Not even a scratch. Kiss my ass, Oakley!

I wear heat wave. Polarized plastic lenses. When they get to scratched I just order a pair of replacement lenses. I have two pairs. Mainly wear the “vise” I think it is. Ridiculously tough frames as I beat these things to death. Been through 2 sets of lenses in 5 years. Cheap enough at $50-60 for the original purchase and $30 for replacement lenses.

I also have the larger I think Quattro or something. I primarily wear these in the desert environment when I’m out in the sun all day non stop.

The vise is more of a wayfarers/rayban style frame.

Big enough to fit my big head, and give adequate coverage from glare off my cheeks.

So what's more scratch proof? Glass, is assume. So they have delicate coatings on them as well?

My last high dollars glasses were Ray Ban but also 20 years ago. Lost them off my motor cycle tank bag. Duh, they go on your head dummy.

I take spells but often never wear any for months.

I have a $400 pair of Revos and a $15 pair of body gloves. Guess which ones get worn 100% of the time? Yep, the body gloves.

My Revos have the glass lenses with whatever space age coatings but they are heavy. Optically, they are nice though.

Body gloves are plastic and lightweight and comfortable. BUT they are about a year old and do have some scratching on the lenses. I’ll have to see if I can get replacement lenses.

I wear a cheap $4.98 walmart safety sunglasses for 8-10 hours a day. I wear them on a set of cablz sun glass retainers around my neck to keep from loosing them. The best thing is I can keep an extra set in my service truck just in case I scratch the ones I'm wearing. I am way to hard on glasses to have an expensive pair.

For years I wore Miller Electric Safety Glasses with a 3.0 shade (basically a grinding/zizwheel cutting tint) from the 'zon at $12-18/pair... the shape made me "look angry" (told that or asked too many times "what you pissed about?")🤣
Bought a pair of (ridiculously overpriced) polarized Calcutta's for boating... and within weeks the "mirror" finish fell off...

Then bought a pair of Shady Rays with their water repellent coating for $60... were GREAT until they blew out of the Jeep (no windshield at 55) and were replaced under "warranty" (my cipher says that makes them $30/pair :flipoff2:)
Have since bought 3 more pairs of that style (no coating & different color lenses) over the past 4 years to distribute amongst vehicles, along with several "$18 grab bag specials" (no warranty and also some wayfarer clone)

thought id bring this back up. my frames broke on my Smiths last week. did the warranty thing and new pair is being delivered by Christmas. cost me 20 in shipping.

So far Smith has had the best warranty out of any sunglasses ive ever owned hands down.

I just discovered that Leupold makes sunglasses now. They look pretty good from what I've read about them so far. A local gun shop here has some and I may go get a pair to try out.

I ended up buying a pair of Maui Jim's from REI online because I had a gift card. Liked the lenses, hated the way the frames fit.

Went to Cabelas and tried on 386,422 pairs of sunglasses. Found a pair of Costa's I liked, but of course they only had the green or blue lenses, which I'm not cool enough to wear. Dug and dug online and finally found the frames I liked (Tuna Alley) in a discontinued version with the bronze lenses like I wanted. I absolutely love the lenses, but don't love the way the frames fit. Not bad, just not what I'm used to, and not sure if I will be able to get used to it. Time will tell.

I wish Oakley would just make some lenses that don't scratch so easily for the Flak Jackets.

I have wore Costa 580g glass Reeftons for years, other Costa frames for years before that. Glass is the only way to go. Wound up with poly prescription lenses and scratched them within 2 hours....wiping them off with the lens cloth they came with.

With that being said, Costa was recently bought out by a large blanket company and now being made in a different area of the world...now made cheaper as well, and their warranty process is NOT what it used to be.

Zeiss optics makes custom lenses for just about everything now. Prescription included. They warranty their lenses for 10 years.....and can warranty them out as much as every month.

I bought myself a pair from Optics planet. Had a coupon code and was already buying some vortex binoculars for my FIL's xmas present. So far I love them. Very comfortable and lightweight. Been a long time Costa buyer but have since been trying other brands. I would buy another pair for sure.

Yeah mine came in a box that said Mfg'd by Oakley, Foothills Ranch, CA or something. I had to look it up because I started to wonder if they were fake. Luxottica who owns Oakley, Ray Ban, and a bunch of others, bought out Costa a couple years ago.

That's the name I was looking for. I am extremely disappointed as I spent years chasing the perfect lenses and frames. I live in my sunglasses. Sun up to sundown I'm outside and have em on.

I was listening to a podcast the other day that mentioned luxotica has started producing many of the rip off name brands as well. They figured the rip off market was worth a few billion and decided instead of fighting it they would join it
