The plan is to finish the bridges. We will have the loader out to help. Also we will be showing the ideas for Daniel run off issues and possible bypasses. Diamonds and trash pick up, and a small bypass issue on wolfes den if its not done by then....

The bridge on Dutch is all tore to hell. The logs are fine but scattered and need to have a new cable installed.

I will try my darndest to get this done on this Tuesday as i was completely wore out Saturday afternoon after Scott worked our 4POC off.

I put some tree's across the part they were going in, but in talking to Debra last night it will need some better work with the back hoe to fix it.

Ill try to make it out in the dodge where do we meet this will be my first time at a trail day

We usually start gathering around the Outpost for breakfast / general shooting the shit around 0800. Then we will meet at the Hunt camp just down the road at 0900 as Terry from the USFS will be there for this one. The 0900 is the main one you need to get to though.

As stated in the header CNC4X4 will be providing free dinner to all volunteers at this workday. More details to follow but please post up if you're planning to attend so we can try to get as close a head count as possible. Thanks.

Hi Everyone – I want to first thank everyone that has been volunteering on the Uwharrie National Forest this year. We on the forest greatly appreciate all of your hard work. I know it’s been a while since we’ve worked with you on the trails and a few of our bigger projects got washed out this summer due to so much rain. Well on September 21st I’ll be working with you and CNC 4x4 is planning on supplying a late lunch around 3 pm for volunteers. I’m not sure where we’ll be meeting for that but Snappy and the CNC 4x4 Club can let us all know that info so we can be there. Do make sure that you have folks bring water and some snacks to make sure we can all make it to our late lunch. We have several big projects to work on that day. We’ll be meeting at Uwharrie Hunt Camp at 9 am and we’ll get folks signed up and get passes out to folks that need them and then divide up the groups for the different projects. Please let Snappy & me know if your club or you’ll be coming so we can have a rough head count.

Project 1: On Daniel Trail we’ll installing guardrail at the illegal ATV and dirt bike trail that you have blocked off several times with logs and slash. We’ll be putting the posts in with hand augers unless anyone / club would have a tractor or bobcat with an auger there that weekend. I don’t know if it would be safe to take a tractor or bobcat there. For those people that have been there recently let Snappy & me know if you think that would be feasible and if anyone would have that equipment there on the 21st. If not I’ll bring the augers we have at the work center. To get the guardrail and posts to that section we’ll need trucks / jeeps that can haul them up to this spot. We’ll slash in the trail behind the guardrail. I’ll also have some carsonite signs with “No Vehicle Beyond this Point” on them ready for you to install behind the guardrail. That will make it easier for Charles Foote to write tickets and make it obvious that they are breaking rules. (or should I say “More Obvious”).

The loader that you have been getting worked on is ready for this work day and an equipment operator is lined up to work with us. There are 3 projects that I’m hoping we’ll accomplish with the loader that day. 1. Smooth out the rocky spot on the Wolf Den Trail where the Falls Dam Trail intersects with it. It’s getting too pronounced at both rocky spots there that people are going around it. 2. On Falls Dam Trail in the steep clay section that comes down from Forest Road 516 and then intersects with the Wolf Den Trail we’re going to address the pronounced ruts that is causing people to get high centered there. We’ll also have him soften or lower the berm parts of the rolling dips that are too pronounced and steep. I’d like folks there to help block off the illegal bypasses by slashing them in. 3. Repair the log crossings on Dutch John Trail. I’m not sure how many are left to do.Whoever has worked on them this summer please let us know how many are left to do and if we need new logs out there and new cable. One crew of folks can work on them and then when the loader is done with Wolf Den & Falls Dam Trails it’ll head to the 1st log crossing on Dutch John Trail (starting from the western end where it starts from the Wolf Den Trail). The loader is needed there to move the large boulder downstream from the log crossing so it’ll can be repaired and it’ll last longer (hopefully) this time.

THIS A GAME PLAN FOR THE WORKDAY....

Please let me know if you have any questions

Ill have my dodge ive never tryed Daniel trail but i have a winch and 8 ft of bed space so i can haul the guard rail and posts up thats no prob

Rode out there today. It looks like we really won't need any logs for Dutch John, but will need a good 100-200 foot of cable and several cable clamps. We will have our work cut out for us on the bridge repair. There are at least 3 bridges that need work. 2 need a good amount of work. The 3rd is the one we already did a few months back. It has gotten beaten up some and will need some work.

I am sorry as it stands i will not be able to make it as i just cut down two Tires on 77 and cant find any replacements that i can afford

WAs also out there yesterday on the bike. There was a log down the trail from the bad bridge. Others were not so bad .

Do we have any clubs coming out to do this ? Or are they all going elsewhere up there instead ?

Rode the trails with Broncosbybart, took some pics of the bridges on Dutch John.

Bridges in order coming from Rocky mtn. loop.

Bridge 1. Shifted over and broken cable at the anchor points. Broken log in middle of bridge.

Brigde 2 (one we fixed a couple months ago) Logs have been shifted, cable broke in middle of bridge. There are already 3-4 logs there so we shouldn't need any more to make the repairs. Hopefully it won't take too long to make the repairs to this bridge.

Bridge 3. Probably the worst one. Will need to move most of the logs back in place. and re-string all of the cable through the logs and possibly anchor them at some better points. Will also need to remove several good sizes rocks in the creek. And we will need 3-4 new logs to make the repairs

Bridge 4 More broken cable, and a couple of broken logs. Again bridge needs to be put back in place

I picked that log up. There must have been a ton of water flowing through that area! Thanks for posting the pics, Nick. I know we can use all the help we can get. We (CarolinaBroncos) will have some folks. I'm trying to get a count on how many. 4 for sure so far.

I will be there with my Jeep and my daughter will be there with her Jeep and a friend as well.

Dont forget CNC4x4 will be providing a late lunch/early dinner at the double parking lot (I believe) around 3pm that day. The menu will most likely be hotdogs/hamburgers and sides. Look for the guys in the orange shirts!
