Other option is to ditch all of this, get a shorty adapter and swap the VSS for an internal one (requires transmission teardown).
I know it's unlikely that @BigSouth will do that, but it's strongest solution available for this trans/tcase combo.

Failed trips as well.
Nothing against you personally, but it’s a fools errand to think anything will prevent this. There will always be a weakest link. We just keep moving them around.

Mine is usually the loose nut behind the wheel....

Welded on scrap nuts to the 6 sheared bolts and got all 6 extracted with little to no fuss. Threads were in great shape so I opted to not replace the bearing assembly face. Probably $300 savings. Cleaned up everything and started reassembly today. For the clocking ring, I sealed it up with some Right Stuff Black and ASTM A574 3/8-16 socket head bolts. Says stronger than Grade 8. Of course a liberal amount of Loctite 271 Red to make this job much harder if there’s a second time.

And for the tail of my 4L60, I got 6 new M10x1.50 12.9 studs from McMaster-Carr that again exceed Grade 8 standards. Also a liberal amount of red to double the pleasure down the road.

Everything is left to cure while I work a 10 day stretch to cover everybody else’s Thanksgiving plans. Then I can start putting everything back together.
