uhh....
Public or private does not matter. When you drive up a tree that is on your land, the greenies STILL have something to bitch about!

im not sayin to not be concerned with the environment, but ill be damned to have someone try to stop me from doing whatever i please (within legal limits) on my own damn property.

is this supposed to tell us that we are not allowed to post these kind of pictures anymore?

and by the way, since this is the photo section, shouldnt there be some pictures in here?

im not sure i agree with this, pirate is much more concerned with not giving the greenies ammo, and i see waterfall pics on there all the time.

What we're asking is to think before posting your pictures. We're going to be watching what's posted closely and deleting what we think is inappropriate. We're not Pirate, and we're not trying to be. This is a decision made by the admins, like it or not.

But when the greenie snags that picture off a web page and then uses it to say "Look how destructive 4x4's are! Look what they do! They drive through the water, leaking oil and everything else!"

It will never be mentioned if that picture was taken near a reservoir, or on your own private land... and it doesn't matter... They'll use it.

Still isn't gonna stop me from DOING it when I have permission or it's my land though...

yeah, i totally respect any decisions you guys make, thats your job, but its a fuzzy line.

most any wheelin picture can be taken out of context. why not just watermark any uploaded picture "ON DESIGNATED TRAIL" or something

Youve got to be kidding, cant post offroading pictures on a 4x4 forum! Why dont you just close all of the topics and just have a chit-chat only board.

Jon, don't cause problems where there is none. No one said you couldn't post pics, what was said is to use some common sense posting them.

has this been an issue? was someone notified by one of these "greenies"?!

sure, this is ya'lls site, yall make the decisions, but seriously, this is getting ridiculous.

it sounds like common sense is to mean, no posting of pics like this

oh....and this is the pic section, where are the pics?! :flipoff2:

How many green thumbs visit this website? Have you been contacted by a greenie association hence the ruling?

We cant post pics of rigs in waterfalls, climbing trees, or off designated trails.

Whos to say im on a designated trail or not? I do alot of backyard wheeling on private land that the 'mod gods' might not recognize and be considered off trail. So does that get my pic deleted? Look at any paragon trail or crackers neck, just the orientation of the rock gardens could be interpreted as a waterfall.

Im not trying to start trouble just voice my opinion against the ruling of the judges(isnt that what public bulletin boards are for), but for a public forum you cant scratch your butt without permisssion from a 'moderator'. Maybe if its going to be sanctioned so badly it should go back to a private board......

you know, this is part of the reason i quit coming to this board before... nc4x4.com has always been one of the most moderated boards out there and THAT is probably why it went under the first time... if the mods want to make these rules and be e-nazi's thats fine, you guys are paying the bill but dont expect the board to ever be what it COULD be... you have already deleted people's posts for doing things that are not discouraged anywhere on the site other than their posts (the gun ordeal), now youre telling us we cant post wheeling pictures??? ANY picture that shows a rig offroad IS going to be used by the greenies, no matter if youre climbing a tree or driving down a dirt road with a brand new honda pilot... what im saying guys is that there always have been and always will be fanatical greenies that will do anything to make a point, you cant stop that but this is a public forum, for now i guess, and to restrict what people do on it to the extent which you have done is not gonna do anything but piss people off... i hope you take these words to heart and think about them because if things keep going the way they are, you're gonna lose a lot of people.

How about a pic of a truck in Fain's Ford. Couldnt that be used for ammo? If oyou put a disclaimer up that all pics are on private property or OHV land or put nc4x4.com on all pics so they cannot be used w/o legal permission.

No pics of certain situation isnt the corrective solution to a greenie problem

Yeah, and it has been in the past. If you pay any attention to the politics around Tellico, the crossings at Fain's Ford and Difficult Crossing (5) have been major sticking points for years. Sooner or later, they're either going to build bridges or close the trail. There's no two ways around it.

As for StudNuts.... here comes the whaaaaambulance.

holy crap, really necessary to act like a 5 year old. that is embarrasing.

i think both sides have valid points. i understand both aspects, but the rules are the rules and if you want to post here, follow them, if not don't post i guess.

have you guys been contacted by greenies, or is this precautionary? (an honest question)

HOLY SHIT PEOPLE. This is a VERY straight forward request. When you post pics of offroad vehicles 3/4 of the way up a tree, people see it. Forest rangers HAVE made requests to us to be careful what we allow here, becuase its a reflection on all off-roaders, everywhere. The problem is, people still continue to do it. I could give a fat rats ass if you drive on your tree or in your stream, JUST DONT DOCUMENT IT HERE, BECAUSE YOU MAKE US ALL LOOK BAD.

x2 :stupid:

91yoTa, if you quit coming to NC4x4, how did you see this post? Please do us all a favor and stick to your word. Thanks!

Mikey

i quit coming here for a long time... i was under another s/n then and just recently re-registered, hoping things had changed, much to my dismay- they havent... i realize there are other boards, and they may be a better fit for ME... screw it, im done with this, ill just lurk from now on and if something interests me enough, then ill post... have fun flexing your e-muscles :D

and btw, when i was a member previously, i made several donations to YOUR paypal account to help with the site bills ;)

than with good reason in my opinion.

like you said, people will change their tune as soon as uwharrie or tellico is shut down.

My point exactly. Jon seems to be reasonably thick-skinned, and I doubt he's going to get his e-panties wadded up over this. He's got a point that it's hard to tell sometimes where a truck is, and whether or not it's on the trail. But then somebody posts photos of a rig behind the fence at Uwharrie. It's usually that clean-cut.

My point is that nobody *wants* to be a mod-nazi. Nobody is going to waste time going through his (or anybody else's) photos to make sure that every one is 100% on the up-and-up. Mike's was a simple request that everyone think about what they post, and consider how it might be misconstrued before they do so. Because, simply put, nobody wants to have to moderate all that stuff. It comes back to self-policing and the board members as a whole taking responsibility for what goes on here and in our local wheeling areas. That's all.

Can't say anything about the greenies, and Mikey mentioned the USFS already, but I can tell you that a certain land owner whose trails run quite a bit through creeks/streams has asked to curtail posting of pictures in the water on message boards, as he doesn't want to open himself up for any issues with the EPA and such..

(If you think about "all" the trails I've ridden in '05, it'll be easy to figure out who I'm talking about.. LOL)(sad, ain't it? The builder's club is a motha)

And I've known at least two land owners that were considering opening up their lands for private rides that backed out after seeing pictures on the web.

I was approached by the forest service, and a few TB officers about some pictures posted on here during the fun caravan. We thought about what to do, and how to handle it, I mean, the best thing about the board is to be able to post pictures, and Mike's approach to asking people to be more responsible in their picture posting seemed the best way to do it for now.

Come on guys. It is not the end of the world if you cannot post pics of you on a waterfall or a tree. I certianly hope you have other pictures of your rig on things like on rock or dirt. Post those. If you have an overwelming desire to show your rig on waterfalls, etc. then put them on a hosting site (webshots, etc.) and put a link to it in your sig. There is no reason to agrue about silly things here. What really needs to be argued about is 1) Jeeps ARE better than Toyotas. and 2) Rich's crusier will def. look better if he paints it pink with purple flames. :D

argue

There is no argument about which is tougher, jeep or Toyota. :D

My jeep runs on all cylinders..all the time...lol

Maybe someone can explain to me how riding on private land is going to cause problems? If I own the land and want to ride on it , but maintain the majority of trees..etc.. it's wrong and I'm distroying it and giving the greenies ammo. But, I can bulldoze all of it and put up a strip mall and no one gets pissed? Or better yet, in a rural area I can clear cut the shit out of it and that's all good too, but god forbid driving up a tree amongst thousands? We have private land, don't act like a jackass and you can do just about whatever you want, I'd much rather see some trails through the woods than asphalt and a trailer park. It's your board and I understand the censorship, but it seems like if that the case, why post any pictures of wheeling cause they are all ammo?
