Hey does anyone on here have this? Mainly wanting it for ESPN. What are your thoughts? Any issues? Thanks....

I just got it 2 days ago, so my opinion might not be the best, but I really like it. very easy to use, to me the picture quality looks better than TWC. The only thing that I have noticed is that whenever you tune in to a channel, it takes like 3-4 seconds for the picture to become clear. (although it could be just depending on your internet...

Had it for awhile now. I really like it

We have it too. I really like it. Only issue I've had is with the roku player freezing while watching. Not sure if it is the roku or the service. Usually happens while trying to fast forward with something on demand.

Ok.... I'm guessing I'm going to need a fire stick or something bc my tv doesn't seem to be able to download an app for it.

Any recommendations on which one to get?

Roku
fire stick
Etc......

I bought the Fire Stick. I like it. remote is nice.

Also with Kodi... I am not too familiar with it. I am trying to read more about it. Apparently there is a way you can stream new(er) movies and tv shows, etc.

Roku is the industry standard. Chromecast is interesting, but more geared to the home theater PC crowd. Fire stick is alright, but you're going to be pushed towards Amazon products. Personally, I have Rokus. I have a 3, the new stick, and a TV with roku built in. I'd go for the stick. Mine is plugged into the HDMI and pulse power off the TV, so it's completely hidden. Casting from my phone or PC is easy and fun. Menus are clean and navigation is quick.

We got it shortly after it first came out, about 6-8 months ago maybe?
Originally it was pretty flaky. Lots of complaints. They had a lot of problems w/ streaming when demand was high - oh man, the AMC stream kept being delayed/crashing during the first two episodes of the new season of Walking Dead... you should have seen the complaints on their FB page...
since then though it's gotten a lot better. The only complaint is sometimes it has a hard time getting a strong data feed on a channel, and the image will be really blurry/pixelized. But most of the time this will go away if you change channels and come back. I chock it up to not really being Sling per se as much as something w/ the source.

We have a Roku 3 and a Roku stick. Overall I find the responsiveness of the roku3 to be MUCH better. The stick has a bit of a lag between when you push the button and action happens, and sometimes it's a little jittery. IMO the Roku3 is worth the extra $$. Plus you can hard-wire it to a router for a higher rate data stream.
BTW roku is controlled via wifi, not IR, which is convenient b/c you don't have to worry about pointing the remote, or you can get a Roku app that lets you control it via your phone.

Back to sling, anther nice thing is you can access it from any data source anywhere, so you can even watch TV on a train on your phone or whatever.

Your roku 3 has an IR receiver. You can program a Harmony or most any other universal to operate it as long as you put it where you can see it. And my 2nd Gen roku stick is probably just as responsive as our 3.

Guess I should add that we have a roku 3. Also, sling has added channels to their service over time, not taken channels away. Kinda tough to beat for $20/mo.

yes actually I have a Harmony remote. Unfortunately the one function it DOSN'T have is WiFi, but I use the IR for the Roku.

With sling tv do you watch shows live or go back and watch them later? I watch everything after it has recorded on our dvr, sometimes in multiple segments. Just wondering how this would change?

The channels are live but the majority have the ability to pull ups show when you want.

yes.
There is no DVR option w/ Sling, unless maybe you routed the Roku through a separate device to record or something. So, yes, you do have to watch live w/ commercials etc.
But most of the channels to have options to pull up programs that have already aired to watch later. The content available like this varies widely by channel, some have lots, some have little.
Also, some channels allow pausing or even re-starting a live show from the beginning, but others don't. I know TBS and AMC don't.

I figured you did. ;) I know you that well! The way you worded it, though, made it sound as if programming a basic universal wasn't an option with the Roku 3. It kinda sucks that I can't use my Harmony with the Stick, but I like not having another box hanging out even better. Although I will say that I got a Roku 2 for my Dad. Mounted it to the back of the TV with the IR receiver pointed up. The Harmony I programmed for him is strong enough to bounce the signal off the ceiling and hit the Roku. So there's that.

The remote that came with my LG is IR, Bluetooth, and WiFi compatible. So far it controls all my devices pretty well. I'm going to try the Firestick with the Kodi app on it. I looked at both the Roku and the Firestick and the only reason I leaned to the Firestick was b/c of that. We'll see how it works out. My tv has most of the popular apps on it already and my antennae gets great reception for my locals. The only reason I was considering Sling was for sports.

On a similar topic, has anyone tried Playstation Vue? Supposed to be similar to SlingTV. I have been thinking of getting one of the 2, just not sure which.
I'd never heard of it, but thanks to this post, considering it closely.
For us a big issue is local main networks. We have an antenna, I've tried everything and we just can't get CBS reliably and NBC is hit and miss.
Vue includes the main networks (in select areas whatever that means).
