Anyone have any ideas? Thinking about swapping the 660 for a cbr 600 engine, but don't want to spend $1700+ on a snowmobile trans that others have used to retain 4x4. I know I will have to weld the spiders in the transaxle and do a front driveline disconnect, but I feel the added power would be well worth it, and I already have the engine.

The transaxle doesn't necessarily have to have 5 speeds, it will just be acting as a transfer case anyways.

If I could find a transfer case with a reverse gear that would work too...

Are motor swaps legal in UTV's for ECORS?

What kind of snowmobile Trans you looking for. I have a lot of family in New York and thry deal with snowmobile parts all the time. I got a feeling I could get it for you a lot cheaper then $1700.

Depending on what year engine it is....you're looking at 100hp and as little as 46ftlb from that engine.

Granted....you will have doubled the HP, but you're facing about the same torque as that 660 already puts out.

I know you've GOT the motor...but dang man, if you're gonna go thru the trouble to DO it....it sure would be SO much more worth it to do it with a Busa motor (+/-160hp 95ftlbs)

and they're pretty abundant.

Just a thought.

I read somewhere a stock 660 is about 30hp. The cbr engine is out of an 02', so being fuel injected is nice. Plus, a busa motor will break stuff alot faster, guys are running over 100 with r1 engines, I don't care to run that fast... The low/high range gearing should make it crawl nice even with the 600.

I have an 88 Honda AWD station wagon with working transmission if that helps....... No idea about this sort of thing.

The great thing about a liter-size engine is you don't HAVE to use all that power on tap. You can "lug it" and still be in a very healthy power curve.

The low/high range gearing should make it crawl nice even with the 600.

Just remember...with that 600 you'll have to rev it pretty hight to even make it to where that 660 makes it's peak power.

THIS...is why so many 600 street riders SOON move up to literbikes. They're tired of wringing the piss outta the engine to make ANY power. Whereas more guys prefer the 600's on the track...where they are reving the piss out of them ANYWAY.

Just something to think about....like I said...if you're gonna go thru the effort....mind as well be with a worthy engine.

I hope they never allow engine swaps in UTV's in ECORS, I think a lot of people wouldn't race, I know I wouldn't.

What about a 650 or 800 rotax swap? I am kind of in the same situation but reversed, massively outpowered. I could sell it and buy a razr, but I love how the rhino is already built/caged.

If engine swaps become legal, you can bet your ass it will run off most of the RZR 800 guys and I will be installing a couple turbo kits. 0-80 in 4 seconds anyone???

Lol, good luck dodging trees :) I am thinking more about a rotax swap, that puts it a little closer to a peel playing field. I guess if I can't race its no big deal, I just want more power off the turns and a little more in the straights.

Bj, no engine swaps, but are there rules against turbos?

Don't think so. There was a guy running a turbo 800 at The Flats and Spartanburg I believe.

Guys I totally understand where yall are coming from about not wanting to have engine swaps BUT as you could see on saturday there is a reason that almost all of the UTV class was dominated by RZRs.......Michael was giving that Rhino all it had and we were just getting left on any kind of straight in the race! Its just hard to compete in the UTV class without the bad boy RZR......and I loved being the only rhino in the class but it is way underpowered compared to these guys.

Turbo Busa engine...now I'm thinking clear

The XP900 is setting the bar BUT I hear the rumor is the 4th BMS UTV will be a Artic Cat "RZR Killer" 1000. No engine swap required
