Snowmageddon 2024!!!

The guilford County schools closed today!

Counted almost a dozen wrecks, 3 on the lids or rolled a few. Saw two crashed fire trucks layed over. And a bunch of non drivers. All between Winston and Statesville.

Roads were a mess. Not because of the snow, because of the idiots.

There was a truck upside down in the ditch near my house. Looked like a wild ride.

The recovery often tears them up worse. Ladders are the devil! Average cost for a new stick is 1 mil plus.
It takes a bunch to total one for sure in terms of value. Ladders fall into a category of extremes in a lot of engineering and liability. We test and repair a lot of them. Often we seek the "permission" of the OE and often get engineered prints or service bulletins prescribing weld procedure and or modifications. We actually mag particle test weldments and structurally load several departments annually as a yearly cert.

Torn up from a roll over will most likely land at the OE. Can't say that I would be disappointed either😬.

I'm wondering what's up with the Sanford FD. They have a brand new midmount on order, due to be delivered next year. But, they just bought a used ladder to "temporarily" replace the current ladder, which will be placed in reserve status.

Evidently, the current ladder is in bad enough shape that they can't keep it running another year. Yet it's good enough for reserve. Or maybe it's an insurance certification thing. Just odd.

Could not tell you. I don't get involved with the budgets, politics, or inner department type stuff. I find all that a conflict of interest with the services we offer.

Folks leaving The Ranch...ooopppss.
Seriously though, did they think it would work before driving there?

Agreed. Without more backstory, this just seems super dumb.
