I'll be grillin/smokin all day and night since the meat in the freezer is thawing out w/o power.
I would close off those holes and put new ones in the sides near the top of the pan.Made some mods to mycheapo this morning to prepare for the afternoon. Made legs for the coal pan out of bolts. Instead of resting on the bodies legs, the pan is free standing. This will allow me to carefully lift the whole smoker up and off to add coal, rather than trying to get lit coals in the tiny door.
Also added air holes since it had zero.
I still need to add a way to adjust the air intake from the bottom. In hindsight I should have spent a little more on a better smoker.

There is a small grate that keeps the coal above the holes. I can give it a tap or use a stick to knock ashes from the bottom.
Pipe fitting is a great idea!
She's holding steady at 245* right now but it's sure windy.

If you're smoking and it's windy try to put the smoker where the wind can't get to it. If it's blowing out of the south, put the smoker on the north side of the house or visa versa, I've also used 2 pieces of plywood to make an V and set the smoker in the corner to block the wind from robbing heat from the smoker.
@Jody Treadway be careful of the olive oil at higher temperatures as research shows it can cause cancer. At just over 400* it turns into a carcinogen. Once it starts to smoke it is to hot and it is to late.
Dang wish i could find a deal on a used one. Most want almost what a new one cost.Scored a new to me Egg. Built the start of a table and fired it up yesterday. Cooked some chicken and hotdogs (no pics). Even did a blueberry cobbler last night around 10.
Got plans to do wings and a pork loin today (and anything else I can find). I had a grilling problem before and now the Egg will proba ly exacerbate my habit.
