Socket Organization

Slight tangent; how are y'all organizing your allen wrenches?

But seriously, I keep them in the sized holders they came with. Others in repurposed small boxes so they don't go everywhere.

Haven't printed anything in about a month. I liked the small socket trays I had printed, but they needed to be redesigned as they needed more slots for sockets I had. I decided I would combine metric/standard, add spots for extensions and a ratchet. I also put 4 magnets on the bottom.

Printing another one now. The biggest problem is empty spots for missing sockets 😭

It is ridiculous that you can buy a complete set of sockets, ratchet, bits, etc for cheaper than it costs to get 8-10 sockets to replace lost ones. Placed a warranty order with S&K to replace broken stuff, so I'll have almost two complete (and well organized!) sets finally. I bought SOOOO many S&K tools from a surplus guy down at Ft Bragg years back, I am trying to get them out of the foam dividers and into something that takes up less space with size labeling and such. The 1/4" drive stuff is easy, 1/2" drive is what I am going to dread (and may never forget around to doing??).

Not sure if that was intentional or not but that's a heck of a term! lol

Spell incorrect I guess!

I made a 3/8" tray last night for a Snap-On set that was my dad's. Also made a tray for random 1/4" drive sockets. Three rows of metric, three rows for standard. This was for all those incomplete sets, or random sockets with no place to go. Bad part is, now I have figured out I STILL don't have enough slots for some sockets. Why do I have sooo many 7mm sockets?

The printer has been busy. Lots of these SK sets were in foam dividers when I got them (milsurplus), which are nice in a way, but the downside is they are not labeled based on size. They also get stuck in the foam and are hard to remove. Some of my 3/8" sets are on these peg organizers, but the pegs hit the top drawer of the box so I had to trim them shorter, so also not ideal, also the sockets have to put facing down, so you have to guess which are 12pt/6pt.

The 2nd pic is three big trays, the set goes from 5/16-1-1/2. These organizers will save me lots of space in the drawers and make everything fit in much less space than what they were in originally.

I love seeing all this but man it makes me jealous. I have as many tools as some of you (looking at the pictures) and not nearly enough space for toolboxes and work space to organize it all. I literally trip over stuff in my garage every time I have to go in there because there is so much in there. I went to "impossible" to organize about the time I started parking over things with the Frontier (portal clearance makes that a possibility) but now there is literally stuff everywhere and no where to store it all. Next house...

Don't feel bad, my garage sounds worse, just the toolboxes are organized 🤣

@Tacoma747 did you design those or find them on thingiverse?

I drew them all. The few 1/4 drive trays I had downloaded there was always a socket or two that wouldn't fit. I will probably upload the files on makerworld.
