Socket Organization

here is mine

I use the Ernst twist lock rails for most of my work sockets. You can buy pegs for the different sizes and adjust them on the rails to do whatever.

I have been buying them from summit since they are expensive on Amazon. Being able to have 1/4 and 3/8 on the same rail makes putting things like Allen sockets on the rail easy.

I swear by these- because:

- Buy multiple and mix-match the retainers
- Organize the way you want - by drive size, by drive point count (multiple drive size), or who knows
- not limited to sizes marked on the holder itself
- I like to add to my collection over time and these allow for growth.

Can also buy the single row units for specialty socket groups. The only thing I recommend is to pay attention to the base width of the retainer clips, as some brands have ones that are narrow (mostly on the 1/4" drive ones) and they are floppy.

I just moved everything over from my old box and it’s not too bad, but needs some work.

The black thing on the right is the cheapo $10 HF tray which I like better than the taller one, BUT it has a square on the bottom instead of a round pin, so you have to orient them when you put them back.

Honestly the plastic blow molded thing from an old craftsman box works really well. I’d like to have something like that which would fit the whole drawer.
My daily roll cart is a split silver eagle kit in drawers. Has 99% of what I need. Tops full of swivel sets, torx etc. and power tools.

How strong is the friciton on the retainers? I like the layout/organization options of that style, but with the simple straight post and oily hands, it's no problem to just quickly grab a socket because there's no resistance.

Today I learned that Silver Eagle is a Matco sub-brand that was also the manufacturer for Husky.
I’ve beat this set for over 15 years daily with impacts. Probably replace 5/6 sockets out of it. Half of those just from wear not splitting. It’s a very complete kit. I got another kit from Mac that’s even more complete that I keep in my truck but the damn sockets are way to hard to get out.

Decent retention, and definitely a trade-off/consideration. Or you could just wipe your hands....

First time I’ve stepped in the shop since this thread started. :shaking: But here’s my socket organization.

The first picture is the top of my HF service cart. Mounted to the left side of it is a rack for pneumatic tools, and on the right under the side shelf is a rack for battery tools. The second picture is the top drawer of my 56” HF roller cabinet where all my impact and specialty sockets live. Mostly using the Hansen trays with some of the impact sockets still on the rails they came on. Probably should do something better for them, but it works for now

Bumping this back up. Printed out two different versions of wrench organization. First one is modular and snaps in(can be as long as you want it to be). Second one is traditional wrench holder, used some white acrylic paint so that the numbers are legible. Going to try and do some socket organizers next.
