I would like to invest in a soft shackle to keep in my recovery bag. Where is the best place to buy one online?

The ones from Amazon are proving to do well, I've also got a bubba rope one that I really like but they are not the cheapest.

We use Factor 55 ones at work. They work great.

I’ve put Factor55’s soft shackles through some unreal abuse in mud, rocks, sand, etc and they have been pretty amazing. Zero failures. My co-driver liked the longer soft shackle vs the shorter one when it came to speed of setup.

What's the point? Was it so lesser men won't hurt their hands?

Mine has turned out to be far more handy than I thought. It does not replace a D ring all together, but works well in some situations that a hard shackle won’t. In January it was a life saver to pull a rig side ways on Crawford’s Cry. Jeep didn’t have anything to hook to in the back, so we just ran the soft shackle around the tube at the back fenders. Certainly worth throwing in the bag.

@BigClay i bought one on Amazon for cheap, has worked well. This one

They are much handier than conventional shackles. I keep one around my shifter.

Have used them to right a rollover hooked around the cage where you would normally use a strap or tree saver.

I’ve got an Olympus off-road soft shackle and winch line. The auctions they run are how I got them. Got the pair for roughly $120 shipped.
I have their rope, some of their original shackles, and some of their super shackles with the reflective strip, from separate auctions. I got the regular shackles first then when they came out with the new ones I gave some of the old ones away.

Oh, a 3x more expensive but no more useful version of a product that's been around forever in the name of overlanding. That's all you had to say.

But that's more than I said in the first place :flipoff2:. I'd venture a guess it's in the name of marine and sailing more than overlanding, but like others have said they have their uses. Don't know if I'd spend the coin for Factor 55 ones, but I've been keeping an eye out for some on sale or something. Looking at the Olympus FB page I'll probably try to snag a set in an auction.

@77GreenMachine thanks for the link. Just ordered one for $16. That's worth trying out versus the ones I've seen for $70.

Absolutely. I used it for a pretty hard pull off of a snatch block, pulling the Jeep sideways and uphill. It’s worth having around at that price. It’s also a very safe way to join two straps if needed. That way you don’t have either a slip joint that’s super hard to get back apart, or a hard shackle as a deadly projectile if something fails.

@CLRracer you mentioned grabbing one at the next auction, hit that link I posted. Can’t beat it for $16.

I bought one from Brennan Metcalf awhile back and love it. I keep it on the end of my winch rope instead of a hook. I think it's well worth the money and not much more than the cost of a good 3/4" shackle from northern or the like.

Soft Shackle

I really want one of his winch rope snatch block set ups....

Snatch Ring Package

BTW, when I bought the soft shackle I also bought his valve core removal tool and it has been worth it's weight in gold!

The worst part about a soft shackle is that other people don't know how to use them when hooking up your winchline. Everytime someone else hooks up my line I have to redo the shackle!
