Soft shackle

Can I nerd out (or is that reserved for JUST @Fabrik8 ) and explain that a soft shackle doesnt force multiply "quite" as well as a conditional shackle because of frictional loss

I'm digging that valve core tool. Had to get one.

I dont think anyone mentioned it, but with a soft shackle a ring is also a good adder for using as a snatch block:

I got mine from C4RS. He may have been Southeastern at the time. Paid more, but wanted to support upstate SC “homey”. They came in handy on the WJ that had limited jacking points. Make great handles on the cage in the YJ.

I bought one from Brennan Metcalf awhile back and love it. I keep it on the end of my winch rope instead of a hook. I think it's well worth the money and not much more than the cost of a good 3/4" shackle from northern or the like.

Soft Shackle

I really want one of his winch rope snatch block set ups....

Snatch Ring Package

BTW, when I bought the soft shackle I also bought his valve core removal tool and it has been worth it's weight in gold!

His snatch blocks are really nice, got on for Christmas. I very inpressed with it. He also does winch cables, $1 a foot for 10mm rope.

I hate these stupid things. Get the slightest amount of slack and it doesn’t work right.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the conventional pulley block/snatch block.

Soft shackles are great as you can throw them around person to person or keep in back pocket while working on a trail.

Everyone gets upset when I throw normal d-rings at them. However the conventional d-ring was also an asset to have nighttime wheeling at the hammers. The soft shackle doesn’t work well as a weapon.

Agreed. if you have them with the block like shown here: Snatch Ring Package, it helps with that. I have had similar issues using standard snatch blocks with synthetic rope.

So I tried my hand at this. I had some hollow core rope and tied a couple. The first one was too small but it gave me an idea of the length I would need. The second one was better. I used two different methods and I liked the second one better. It's not winch line but I'll play with them around the house to see how they do.

Soft Shackles

I used that to figure the length I needed

I bet that one with the ring would make a pretty good whack-bonk. Get some good speed on there!:D

I didn't have any issues with the one I made

Ok, good to know. Didnt know how much stretch it had left. I have some old rope to make them, just hasnt been high on the list yet.

The worst part about a soft shackle is that other people don't know how to use them when hooking up your winchline. Everytime someone else hooks up my line I have to redo the shackle!

people just afraid that it's some new hipster butt plug and don't wanna touch it

I won one of the Olympus auction for 4 of the soft shackles. I'll sell 2 of them if anyone is interested.
