pulling the trigger on a set of 35x12.50 15 goodyear MTRs very soon. I held out for a deal after new years now im having second thoughts. These will be going on my 85 4runner that i want to wheel pretty hard however drive very often on the street. What do some of yall think about the MTRs?

Don't fucking do it if you plan to drive it on the street. They are probably one of the greatest tires off pavement ever made but on road is terrible. Fairly certain mine lasted 15k miles or so on the TJ before they were cupped as shit and worn out. Would be much better off with Nitto Trail Grapplers but I don't want to start a what tire would be best debate.

Mines have worn even but not lasting as long as I’d like them to. Got about 15k miles on them and probably only 3-5 k left on them. I like them so much I will replace them with the same though.

Whatever you do, dont buy them! I have no experience with them but for the love of all things holy dont buy them!

If you want to borrow my maxxis razr 33's and see if you like them you are more than welcome

I have read the same thing everywhere. Some love them and get great tire wear and hate them and get shitty tire wear

ive heard they are near impossible to balance. theres always someone who "ran fine for me", but 9 out of 10 i have talked to said it took several attempts and still didnt get perfect.

From the research I have done, and my plans are to getting Open Country ATs which are reported an easy 60-70k miles with frequent rotation. The same goes for the Baja MTZs. (whichever is skinner actually, ill go with) These are the only two that have consistently been reported to do so by boobtubers and keyboard analysts. After i get those on some nicer wagon wheels, then gunna spring for the beadlocks and trail tires. If I plan to drive the jeep on rocks ill just swap tires.

They wrinkle up and hook like crazy at about 5psi, they wear fast on the road and can tend to be hard to balance.

I’ve ran MTRs on 3 Jeeps and currently have them on my Scrambler. With that said don’t do it for a rig mainly seeing the street.

I know you didn’t ask but I’ve got NITTO Trail Grapplers on my JK now (after a set of MTRs) and WOW what a difference on-road.

I’ll never buy MTRs again

They haven’t been out long enough it seems for me to find consistent data (and variables) that they get high mileage, but if I can find the eveidence that the trail graps do, I’d love to have those for street and trail as I have heard good things for street and trail. Mileage is the key (for me) to choosing a streetable tire.

I love my old school MTRs. Not balanced and I can run up to 70mph with them.

I had 1 set of the Old MTRs, [33s]. I ran them for more years than I can recall, but I didn't put that much Street time on them. Ran them slick, & regroved them. Ran 3-4 more years, till the sidewalls started separating. I Did have a lot of weights on them, but they had great grip! A year or so back, I picked up a used set of the New MTR. After I got them mounted, I noticed they had worn More on the open side, than the off-set rib side. Just seems a Natural way it will wear. I haven't put much mileage on them, & mostly used on trails. They Are Heavy, but strong. I'm running soft bead balance now, & have added More beads, for the extra weight. I Still get some bounce. The grip is "sufficient", but Not as good as the Old style. I air down to 10 psi. Run 24 psi on the road. My CJ is probably round 4000#. After 20 + years of radials, I can't see going back to bis ply! No, I won't buy GoodYear again! Like the Kevlar, but will find a different tread! Mine are 35x12.5x15.

Maybe it is wishful thinking but I want them to reproduce the tread pattern they had before the current MTR.

I can't speak to how good they are, but the Kanati Mud Hawg (or Hog, can't remember) has the same tread as the original MTRs.

Put some on a Suburban and they roared so loud that I thought something was wrong with the burb. I got rid of them shortly thereafter.

Can't beat BFGs for the price.

I agree as long as we aren't talking about the A/Ts, I hate those

I can't tell the difference between the KO2, the KM, and the KM2 when off-road, used side by side. The KO2 is a lot better on the road, though. Cheaper than the KM2, too.
