I'd say either rings or valve seals. Did you pull the oil cap with it running and put your hand over the hole to see if you can feel any pulses? Does it push out the dipstick? Just curious if the cap was jungle jiving it from vibrations.

I’d like to hope valve seals are good as the head was completely rebuilt. The cap dances to a regular rhythm of puff puff puff in sequence with it idling and increases as you rev it up.

Ah, gotcha. Definitely doing the MC Hammer then. Yeah, I'd agree with you on rings.

Maybe one or two are stuck? Run some Marvel Mystery oil in the oil and through the gas. That stuff is wild.

Sounds like rings are stuck. But on a 22r I wouldn’t sweat it too bad. If it’s only doing it at that little bit off idle they’ll probably end up freeing up with some driving. Add the marvel mystery oil for good measure.
