Spare tire carrier Jeep TJ

That's really no different than what comes on a TJ. I think most people saw the extra weight would warp the sheet metal.

Thanks! I have never seen the "exogate" but, I'm not particularly wanting to mount it that way just seen a cheap way of doing it short term before going to Harlan. I would love to make a stinger style tire Carrie later, similar to this.

Why worry about taking a spare to harlen. Yes it's nice if you need it but harlen is still small enough if your with a group you can run back to camp and get your spare from there

Yea I hear ya, but waiting an hour for a tire isn't fun when u can have it changed and ridding in 15mins, especially if it's at the end of the night lol.

Has anyone used this type of spare tire mount?

Heavy Duty Tire Carrier Mount; 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ/TJ

Wondering how well it will hold up on The trail?

Also I know it says 35" tire max, I have a 37" with beadlocks.

The best way would be to have a bumper mount carrier, but just seen this and was thinking the cheaper way for now.

Thanks for the response!

If you decide to go this route, I have one that I just took off my TJ, it is yours for $30

I ran one of those for a while early on in my TJ builld. Honestly it is quite a bit beefier than the stock carrier and while not ideal, isn't bad for a temporary solution. I landed on mine a few times hard enough to bend the mount and it did damage the tailgate a bit as expected, but I never had any issues with the sheetmetal just supporting the extra tire weight of a 33" TSL. A 37 on beadlocks may really be pushing it though. I did still upgrade to a bumper mount carrier as soon as I could. On a side note, you can tell how old this pic is by the fact that that part of URE no longer exists

Exogate is far from a cheap solution. It's quite beefy, and tied to the rollbar in addition to the entire length of the tailgate and corner

I debated for a while on spare tire solutions, since we have no kids I deleted the back seat and tire carrier totally, carry my spare inside. I got creative and was able to utilize the wheel for storage and still get my tools and spare parts inside. I feel like it makes the Jeep more balanced as well.

Thanks! I am also thinking it would be pushing the limits of the bracket and the trail gate!
I may just have to brake down and spend the money on some Tube and plate and make a bumper and tire carrier!

Yes I agree, I don't think that is a cheaper way Togo. I was referring to the $50 set up of a beefed up stock mount. I like the "Exogate" it's well priced compared to some others I have seen that are the same style.
