Sports fan rant

FACTS...I believe anyone who is a former athlete for a Univ. has the right to use "we" in reference to their team or school.
I'll go one further and say if you're an alum of the school, you can say we. If you're just a fan, there is no we.

There seems to be a ton of hate here. I have no problem with the we statement if you went to that school. I personally went to ECU, follow ECU sports, and follow the team pretty closely. After years at a university it becomes a part of you. Some of my best memories revolve around early morning tailgates and late night celebrations. At that point I think people feel a connection.

The problem with Raleigh is the bandwagon fans. The "my grandpa" was a fan type. Some of these people will degrade other teams on the basis that they bought a shirt at walmart (sorry state fans).

I have 2 guys in my office that are UNC fans. They mean well but neither have probably ever even stepped foot on the campus. They may suck in my opinion but thats their world so let them be. Some people on here are just as bad about jeeps, fords (maybe not fords haha), and chevy's(yea that sux) and I doubt many of you were on the lines building your own rigs.

Lets just all let people do what they want if it doesn't hurt us(unless your a carolina fan)

I guess one way to get people to stop saying 'we' is their team losing. All I've heard this morning is 'they' lost, 'they' played like garbage, 'they' shoulda done this or that. Like I said previously, most folks only want to be part of a winner.

Call me in say 6-7 years.
I didn't go to a single game for at least 5 years after playing.
Heck even going to the local HS game to watch my sister in the band fired the blood up...but was no fun. Hell Id actually be depressed for a week or two...I just missed it that bad.
Finally about 5 years ago we decided to get season tickets to Clemson football again, mainly because my primary fall weekend pastime - deer hunting meant that I was spending all weekend away from my family after being way for work all week. the ball game/tailgate deal allowed us as a family to hang out all weekend and enjoy the game as a side bar.
Now I wouldn't miss it for the world. Talking to most of my friends from those days it is almost universally the same.

I have no doubt you're right. I've been to exactly one game since the last time I walked of the field in Neyland (2 seasons). 5 hour drive there, I make it through the running of the T and half of the first quarter, then a 5 hour trip back home. At this time, it just killed me not being out there on the field, I couldn't take it. I suppose once those feeling subside and as I transition from the player to the fan mentality, it'll become easier to cheer for my alma mater. And I'm sure once that family comes along, it'll be fun to go to the 'event' rather than the 'game'.

I don't mind the "we" fans.. but people who don't watch basketball all year SUDDENLY screaming cursing swearing ranting and raving about a foul called on whatever team you happen to arbitrarily be rooting for at the moment... must be why they call it March Madness.
