Thread update.
I hopped on the starlink rental deal, $39/mo for 6 mos then $50/mo after that for 100mb service. Figured why not. Got it all hooked up this afternoon. Seems like a super solid upgrade so far. First Pic is from my current brightspeed network. Second is from the starlink.

Did you set it up on your home mesh network? On my Verizon router I used IP pass through mode to setup my mesh network. Looks like Starlink calls it bypass mode. Starlink

Yes. I just plugged it in the back like the tech Neanderthal I am. Im sitting under my barn shelter right now and am hooked up to an eero at half strength, my kids are in the barn streaming something on TV and it just pulled 40mnps.
I read about the pass through mode but haven't dug in to figure it out yet.
It may not give you trouble like you have it setup but if you start having network issues I would setup pass through and not use the wifi from the starlink. If the Starlink and your current network router are using the same IP scheme you will run into routing issues. For example if both routers are using 192.168.1.1-254.

I am looking into Starlink also. How clear does the sky need to be? I have tried using the app, but without climbing on the roof, I cannot get a good idea. Also, have trees all around my house, esp if we are looking towards the horizon.
I will jump into this. The app said no go. The dish is pointed at a leafed-out tree on the roof. It was set up in the rain this past weekend. Now, I can run high definition, and as soon as I can figure out how to get our security cameras switched over to it I'll be dropping T-Mobile, as cable internet is not an option in our area

Im out in the open so I cant speak to tree cover. Its aimed pretty darn atraight up. Not horizontal, but fairly close. Basic setup said to aim it north at the prescribed angle but by the time I got done adjusting it with the app it is facing east- northeast.

This is Starlink through a network of extenders around the property. My home office is in our detached garage about 40 yds from the actual router. Work well enough for wifi calling as well.

That speed is almost definitely just a reflection of your internal network speed, not the potential speed of the dish.

Not relevant but we just switched to Verizon 5g at the house. Holy hell a few feet from the router I've pulled over 700 mb on my phone.
Its a shockingly large box, but the router antenna in it sucks, it attenuates very fast w/ distance. I'll probably have to go back to my old router and run in pass through.
Bastards were supposed to provide an extender as part of the package but didn't, I wasn't there and the guy told wife, "Eh you don't need it."

Does this 39/50 per month starlink deal include the receiver and such or is that a separate purchase??

You have to buy the hardware.
The standard kit is currently 300 at bestbuy or your favorite retailer.
When we bought ours last fall the standard kit was on sale for..I think $50.
Speaking to tree cover - we use our for football tailgates and we park on a single lane road under heavy tree cover. There isnt a clear view of blue in any direction. The direction the app wants it to point is the most cover. We set it up almost 180 degrees off from its optimal point direction. It taks maybe 10 minutes to lock on, but once done works fine. In that scenario it will show a 30-40% connection rate but streams TV fine and everyone can connect to to wifi and do phone scrolling without issue.

Yes. Its a rental. I placed my order on the starlink website and I think it was like $20 or something nominal when the order was placed. Then a $39 charge for the first month after I activated the equipment. Cancel the service and mail it all back.

Will I be able to run my existing mesh with this starlink setup? Dad just installed it at his house and is super impressed. He referred me so I get a free month. Yes. Super easy. Unplug ethernet from your old router and plug into the starlink. Go into the starlink app and under "settings" select pass through mode. Done. You dont have to use pass through mode but supposedly its better if you do.

I went ahead and bought a couple of the mini routers to use as mesh nodes to get better wifi in my shop and its working pretty good so far. I put one in the bedroom closest to the shop and put one by the door of the shop closest to the house and it all works pretty good. Better than the old mesh system i had setup.
