Stay at home/lockdown happenings

Yes your totally right...but I don't get drunk, I don't wheel stupid or drive stupid, don't do donuts, no high hp, no being retarded or show off...that's kept me safe for 20yrs. The Flats and The Shop had a few butt pucker moments for sure lol...Ol Jeeps remembers one of those moments LMBO

@BigClay were you drunk or being stupid when you barrel rolled 5 times?

It happens when you least expect it. I DO wheel “stupid” as you would probably say. I hit the hard stuff, bang the rev limiter, and if I don’t make it I back up and hit it harder. But I do it in a way that I’m not endangering anyone else, and with proper safety gear.
Every time something crazy has happened that could have been a lot worse, it was backing off the trailer, or moving out of someone’s way, or just thinking “I’m just running right over here”. For that reason I don’t move my Jeep 2’ without a belt on.
I only say all that because not all accidents come from someone wheeling hard, drinking or being “stupid”. Some are simply accidents that come when you least expect it.

After all those races etc, I rolled my 4runner over exactly 1 time. And that 1 time, it was when I was barely starting to move, just didn't see a ditch on my right side. Maybe going 1 mph. Cage saved the windshield and roof from crushing in.

How many trees did you hit at DPG.
Or should I say, how many times did you hit that 1 tree

My rollover was at The Flats on a connector trail and I was in 2WD going down a hill slow. Rear just started sliding, caught up with the front, all I could do was hold on until the cavalry showed up to get me out.

I will be honest, I have not kept up with this thread, but to Phillip’s point, I was neither drunk nor doing anything stupid. I was simply backing up to let a group pass by, luckily my rule is seatbelts on if jeep is moving no matter what. It saved my life and my passenger’s life. The cage also saved us from being crushed.

I will say, I am much more careful now, and some even call me a pansy for not trying some things, but barrel rolling down a hill will give you a new perspective of what could go wrong ;)

1 tree, 2 times.

Not cage relevant though. That just fucked up the bumper
...twice

The issue I have, is not about being careful or not, or drunk, or easy trails, etc

It is that a poor cage gives you a false sense of security.

Mentally your thinking changes vs not having a cage, even if it’s subconscious.

I’m not debating on strength of your cage vs no cage, just pointing out that false sense of security can/will get you into trouble.

I believe you can still find wrenches from @Dylan W. Scattered around the track because of that tree!

I have only had one bad roll in my life. Two end over ends, and finished with a barrel roll.
The original upnover Jeep had just had a spring over lift done. Was on 35 Mud Kings, Was at Richlands and went up a hill climb I had never made. Was attempting to make a hard left to come back down. It got sketchy, I called for a spotter. his last words were, "6 more inches and the back will settle down. It didn't, the rear came up fast and I did the worst thing, I hit the brake.
Jeep was a rust bucket, had only factory seat belts, factory roll bar(not cage) I had a hard top on and hard top doors. The windshield was folded down lower than the dash. The roll bar was down on top of my head, everything in front of the tub was smashed. I separated my AC, passenger had a smashed finger and a stove up back.
My Jeep sit for nearly a year, When I put it back together, it had a 6 point cage, and harnesses. Put the front back together and took it to Tellico.
I even have a helmet for the worse stuff now. as well as one for a passenger.
It happens, when you least expect it. I learned something that day, and have used that knowledge many times since. Gas pedal,, not the brake pedal!

I think back to my roll, and if I had slammed the gas in reverse, it may have kept it from rolling, that or it would have accelerated the velocity of the roll, but I will never know.

Since I have built my Jeep bigger, longer and so on, I do try more extreme things. I cut the gate out on my shifter so I can slam it into reverse a lot easier, has saved my bacon many times!

Ive never met @BigClay, but this accident changed my entire perspective on wheeling. It is still in the back of my mind to this day. I have no idea why, but it has stuck with me.

If he hadn’t had a seatbelt on and a properly built cage I really don’t think he would have survived it based on the story and the pics I seen. Perhaps you @BigClay should dig up the thread and tag Fuller in it as a good refresher and reminder on how fast things can go downhill (pun intended) even when you aren’t “wheeling hard” and doing stupid things.

Pics don't do it justice at all just like always. The entire cage is DOM, made by PJ at M&M Fab, so it was built extremely strong. You can see the dents and flat spots out into the DOM, it was a hard ride with the jeep going airborn a couple times and slamming back on the ground as you can see in the pics. Luckily it landed tires side down. We walked away and actually drove the jeep off the trail.

And what do you think this will achieve? Have you read any post that include advice and John???

About where BigClay's Jeep ended up is close to the spot where we had a suburban in our group flip over one time. It happened literally in the blink of an eye. 87GMCJimmy also rolled his Power Wagon there a few years ago. And that side of Daniel has always been considered the "easy side."
